Countdown to return with new presenter

I hope my suggestion for the new presenter will be satisfactory for all. He is, the one, the only:

PAUL COIA.

Think about it, there's good omens here. He was the first voice on Channel 4 so the historic link remains. He did the introduction into the first Countdown. He is a proven quizmaster on this kind of format in Catchword. He's different enough to Richard to avoid comparisons but similar enough to pull this off.

That is a brilliant idea but unfortunately Paul Coia (as far as I know) has been away from TV for far too long to suddenly return. Most people probably won't know/remember who he is. Nice idea though.

Good call - especially as Giles was the 2nd face to be seen on Channel 4 on opening night, just after the first had introduced him over in Dictonary Corner.

Nope... I think if you check, you'll find that in Dictionary corner was the (late) Ted Moult.

No matter, Gyles for me would be an acceptable new host for the show. Good with the puns, and knows the show inside-out.

Giles Brandreth - the perfect choice

I'd favoured Geoffrey Durham, but Gyles wouldn't be a bad choice. I think it's likely that they'll go with somebody already known to viewers.

I think Gyles is certainly the obvious choice. He would be perfect for it though, I'm sure he'd be able to make the show his own without being in Richards shaddow.

Just choosing a presenter on the basis that they are linked to Richard Whitely - or the history of the show - is wrong.

It needs to be a new partnership, not an attempt to recreate Richard and Carol (which would be doomed!).

It be better for the show to have someone not too closely linked with it, and certainly not to similar to RW.
