What they need is somebody living in the area, with around 13 years previous experience on the show...

Hmm.

I've heard that Michael Aspel is favourite to take over.

But if they want someone from the North - well how about Maggie Mash? She seemed pretty popular!

Doesn't Rory Bremner live on the Thames, near Faringdon?

That's hardly the north, so the problem could well re-occur.

Maybe it's time to put presenters on rotation rather then a permanent host, then if one presenter proves particularly popular, give them are more permanent try.

God no - way to kill a show.

I understand the argument for a Northern host, but really it's no more than 50 days filming a year, which isn't anything to moan about really.

There we are then, time to put the show to rest.

26 years and god knows how many thousands of episodes is still incredibly good going though. If it is axed now (which it surely surely will be) I think that just leaves, erm, the news as the only programme left from Channel 4's first day. I wonder what would have happened if they'd have axed it after Richard's death in 2005, 'replacing' it with Deal or No Deal?

Just hope my Grandad can find something else to watch, he's 73 and was also a big fan of 15-to-1 when it was on!

I know she is accustomed to the Dictionary Corner, but does anybody else think Suzie Dent would be a good presenter for Countdown?
