Could be interesting for Mr Stelling, particularly as he's going to continue working for Sky Sports... he might be sneaky and decide to stay up north and head the 80 miles or so to watch his beloved Hartlepool rather than head home to Winchester or down to Isleworth some weeks!
One slight concern is the pic released is on the current set - which really needs to be replaced now.
The current set's always looked like somebody starting hanging wallpaper and left the job half finished. Considering previous set designs have always looked like former breakfast television sets, this one was an interesting deviation.
Considering Yorkshire TV and ITV wanted to cut Carol's salary by 90%, I would argue a new set is going to be out of the question for the time being.
Jeff: The clock has reached its bottom most mark, time to see what we have from our contestants, here’s Sidney Harris.
Sidney: Seven.
Jeff: Seven! Not seen an amount like that since Tuesday’s edition, and what a riveting edition that was! Time to go to Charlotte, what has she got for us?
Charlotte: Eight.
Charlotte: Eight! A fantastic result there, Charlotte has managed 17 instances of eight-letter words this year, a number only achieved by Gareth Hodges back in 2006, which may not be bettered, here’s Dictionary Corner.
DC: Well, it was a tough ‘un this one, but we just about managed to slide about a couple of vowels to try and get DEADENING, a nine-letter word. It was a difficult one to play but Susie just sneaked in the ING on the end in a clever bit of tactics. It’s contestants 7 and 8, Dictionary Corner 9.
Jeff: DEADENING, well that’s made the game come alive, hasn’t it, 20 minutes to 4, and the scores are the closest we’ve seen for a long time, not since September 2005 when we had 47 playing 46, and now we have 53 playing 51 and it’s time to see if Charlotte’s numbers up as she goes to choose the numbers, Charlotte.

Actually, there IS going to be a new set. Sets are a hell of a lot cheaper than Vordermans.
Good. To be fair they could get away with just changing the backdrop - I don't think people would really notice if the rest of the set remained basically the same.
I wonder if they'll change the logo too or keep it in it's current letter board style format. I doubt they'll change the colours of the letters - last time they did they were inundated with complaints.
Hopefully it will get new titles and a slightly tweaked theme tune as well.
And a new set? maybe? How long have they had the current set?
It seems it's been like that since the Des Lynham era and maybe for Richard's last few series as well.
Yeah they did have the current set in the last few series with Richard Whiteley. The only thing they changed was the opening titles slightly after Whiteley died.
The last series with Richard Whiteley used this titles:
I doubt they'd tweak the theme tune much - and certainly not the 30-second countdown itself. I know they tired to revamp that a few years ago but it didn't last too long.
Although the current titles were tweaked (for the better) after Whiteley died, the basic titles had been around at least a couple of years before that as originally they used shots from the old set, with the new set not introduced until a year or so later.
