I wonder if the jibes on last weeks Have I Got News For You swayed him?

Was just wondering the same thing, he did look a tad uncomfortable at the time. Very odd to hear this news all the same; leaves them in a bigger predicament with only two months to go and two spots to fill.

According to Digital Spy John Sergeant is being considered.

What is going on? Alexander Armstrong has turned the job down? You don't think he's the new Doctor Who do you?

I can't believe it as I thought it was a done deal. Shocked
He's already the talking computer on the Sarah Jane Adventures, appropriately named 'Mr. Smith'

That must be such a small part of his working week. I would much rather they make Armstrong the full time host of Have I Got News For You.

Another name the producers of Countdown should consider is Nick Owen. He'd be a safe pair of hands and is quite witty.

I think they should have guest presenters for a short time.

No way - it needs a permanent host. I do think though they should take a break for a couple of months after Christmas before coming back with a new host around Easter.

I doubt it to be honest, as I'm sure he took it in the same way as most of the things said on the show - it was probably for the same reason you or I might back out of something outside of work.

Indeed it's the same Mr Stelling, good choice in my opinion, also good to see they've gone for an unknown doing Carol's job, although I do hope they change the set at least.

Good news. Stelling is a great host and one of TV's best kept secrets. If you don't have Sky you're missing out on seeing a consumate professional.

They've definately got the best man from the job out of all those rumoured - just hope he sticks around more than a couple of years. And agree it's great for once they've gone for a newcomer rather than an I'm a Celeb reject - I just hope she's given a chance though.

One slight concern is the pic released is on the current set - which really needs to be replaced now. Any news on if a set change is planned?
