Give it another season or two at most with new presenters before being axed. It might have survived Richard's untimely death but it will not survive the loss of Carol as well, certainly not in the long term.

It's a shame they have run the series into the ground. I'll watch until Carol gets the boot - will make for an interesting final episode that's for sure.

Thanks for 26 years Carol - now off you go, the door is just over there. What a way to treat someone - certainly tarnishes both ITV Productions and Channel 4.

I reckon Fifteen to One will make a comeback...

In order for a television show to survive in today's age, it does need to 'regenerate' itself.
So we think it's a great idea! Very Happy

Good, good and I hope you enjoy the new series when it starts. I, like many, will not watch it.

That's what everyone said when Mr Whitely died - and then ratings went up.

In hindsight I think the show has struggled to cope much more from the loss of Des Lynam than from the loss of Richard Whitely, especially as Des O'Conner was never the right choice to replace him.

I disagree. Some may argue Des Lynam was not the right choice to replace RW but where do you draw the line.

Thing was, Des Lymam wasn't ever comfortable in the role, and although Des O'Connor wasn't really suited to it, he was certainly a lot more comfortable presenting.

So if you want to be Countdown's new "Arithmetician" you can now apply here:

http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/C/countdown/arithmetician/

Only thing of note in the application really is the question about whether they're left or right handed, as the set would be re-arranged accordingly.

dunno, the references to "ITV Yorkshire" rather than "ITV Productions" are quite notable.

So has Greggles been placing a few bets then - he's the favourite to host according to Stan James:

http://www.stanjames.com/betting/index.asp?sl=sltc&gi=36&sltc=269730.2&sle=856958.2&slmt=569.2

Scott, Greg 5/2
Rory Bremner 100/30
Aspel, Michael 5/1
O'Connor, Tom 5/1
Brandreth, Gyles 6/1
Wogan, Terry 8/1
O'Grady, Paul 12/1
Bruce, Ken 12/1
Parkinson, Michael 20/1
Parsons, Nicholas 20/1
Dent, Suzie 20/1
Rantzen, Esther 25/1
Holmes, Eamonn 25/1
Lynam, Des 33/1
Robinson, Anne 40/1

However, despite C4 repeatedly saying they would search for a newcomer to replace Carol Vorderman they still insist on putting Myleene Klass as favourite at 2/1, ahead of Gaby Roslin at 5/2 and Suzie Dent at 33/1.

Wow that's a shock, I hope he does get the gig though, I've been saying it for ages, he should get the job.

Apparently William G Stewart was on the list at 15/1

Reel in a member of the public to do Carol's gig and the 90% salary cut is no longer a problem! Hmm...
