On a loosely related note there's also a clip of Greg in dictionary corner during a Countdown rehearsal...

Indeed, when Richard Whiteley launched countdown he was only 39 and his career as a regional news anchor was still in full swing - he wasn't some old biddy past his prime who got wheeled in for a nice easy job before retirement - in 1982 I doubt neither C4 nor Richard Whiteley himself thought he'd still be there at 60.
But with the greatest of respect to Des Lynam and Des O'Connor, is exactly why they got the part - their broadcasting careers are coming to an end and they've been put into Countdown in the hope that by being a bit older they can try and emulate Richard Whiteley in his later years.
If Countdown does survive (I doubt it will now though) they need to stop finding a new Richard Whiteley and start finding a new presenter.

so I don't understand why they think that every host has to have gone into retirement once, and come back to host countdown with less hair, or a new shade of grey.

They did some from Manchester last year as they had to be out of Leeds for some reason, so if they've done it before, they can do it again.
Actually I think it was Tyne Tees City Road studios, unless Manchester has been used as well ?
Tyne Tees moved out of City Road to Gateshead in July 2005, the ones they did from TT were from 2000 or 2001, due to the fact the Studio was needed for the short lived channel from Granada called Wellbeing. When that closed the programme went back to Leeds.
They were only in Manchester for a couple of weeks last year, I think it was more that engineering was required in the Studio, they did mention on air that they were coming from Manchester.

interactivetelly.com is the new name of quiztelly.com. To be fair though, they failed to mention the fact that he is only favourite because a mystery person placed a £10,000 bet on the Stan James website. No one knows who it was but their username is 'YakkaBakakas69'.

Me neither. I am extremely sceptical about this article, and even moreso regarding Greg Scott - as I have said, I don't think he has the ability to adapt to such a programme as Countdown.
Where as I totally disagree.
I think Greg Scott would bring that warmth and humour that I've personally missed from the programme since Richard Whiteley passed away, I thought that Des Lynam was geting there, and then left, but Des O'Conner I just think he was the wrong choice, I know that countdown appeals to the OAP's, but it also appeals to everyone else, so I don't understand why they think that every host has to have gone into retirement once, and come back to host countdown with less hair, or a new shade of grey.
After watching the special that they made with Greg hosting and Richard doing Carol's job, I think that he would be great at it, especially as he knows the show, the viewers and the team better than anyone else.
The only problem that I can see is that Greg was loyal to the show, and would hae had a great relationship to Carol, so I'm not sure how he would feel on the whole situation, but would love to know.
Judging by his Facebook profile, he's more than willing to take on the programme-- his agent has even set up a campaign page on Fbk. I emailed Greg recently (get me) about Countdown, and he said: "I'd absolutely love to present the show". He is also flattered by people campaigning to get him presenting the show.
He hasn't commented in public (or to me) about Carol from what I notice-- diplomatic silence I guess

Surely no right minded thinking celeb will want to touch the show after the bad treatment of the current presenters.

Might be me but none of the hosts that have been and gone were near retirement. Richard Whiteley held down two jobs for thirteen years. Des Lynam tends to change broadcasting networks more times that most people have had hot dinners so it probably wasn't too much of a surprise when he left. Des O'Connor leads a hectic schedule it would appear, having been on telly every year in something or other since Noah built the ark. Figuratively speaking anyway.
With regards to Greg Scott presenting Countdown... I don't quite know what to say about this. Yes, QuizMania was more interesting on the evenings when Mr Scott was on but its whether such a style is appropriate for Countdown is the ultimate question. After all, a stint he did that you can find on the gentleman's website via YouTube states that he bought Dictionary Corner down to gutter level, though I'm sure Mr Scott would do a normal professional job of presenter to the show's usual standards

Sorry Greggles but this time around I don't think you're the man for the job.
Myleene Klass still seems to be favourite for Carol's role, despite C4 announcing they'll search for an unknown graduate. As for the host, there are no obvious candidates really - I think the way Carol appears to have been treated, and hence the lower salary on offer, probably rules out the bigger names.

But you say, Greggles isn't the man for the job then you say there are no obvious candidates.
I mean, I don't want to start praising Greg because I know the majority of people here dislike the guy but given the facts that he comes from the area, has worked on Countdown before, probably has great rapport with his audience I think he's a likely candidate for the job. Yes, he is a bit silly but I think he can adapt and the only real issue is he's not well known by the more senior viewers.

The ever unreliable Daily Star claiming that Bradley Walsh has been offered a three month contract to host, while they'll stop at nothing to get Myleene Klass - despite C4 repeatedly saying they would search for an unknown graduate.
