It must stay in Leeds in order to honour Richard Whiteley.

Richard Whiteley will be Countdown more than Lynam could ever hope.

Indeed, Richard's corpse would probably be midly more entertaining.

Thats a little uncalled for but i agree, Des is very..well...boring to put it bluntly. Its just him and his debonaire act all the time that gets me.

Countdown is a Yorkshire institution I suppose... why does everything have to based in London and SE England? Nice to have some programmes filmed elsewhere... especially quiz shows. Not every lives near the M25 anyway.

In terms of UK geography Leeds is quite central, which is why you get a good mix of contestants... Leeds is equidistant from Edinburgh and London I believe.

If Countdown goes, they will probably decide to close YTV studios; and move production of Emmerdale and My Parents Are Aliens to Manchester. Rolling Eyes Then ITV could move the presentation of Calendar to Manchester, and build a newsroom/Portakabin for Calendar just outside Leeds Rolling Eyes .

Might just happen! Shocked

As for Des, he's doing an OK job-- but who could replace Richard Whiteley? Sad Dick's quirkiness suited the programme perfectly. Can't believe that viewing figures have actually gone up since 'Dishy Des' took over Rolling Eyes

Didn't Countdown move to Newcastle for a series or two a few years back?

Anyone know why?

Lack of available studios at Leeds - one was permanently used for Granada Breeze and ISTR there was some refurbishment going on to some studios.

IIRC it was the Wellbeing channel that was taking up the studio space. I'm sure Breeze was long gone by that time.

I think you're forgetting something rather important: Richard Whiteley was bloody awful.

could somebody explain the 'cecil' part of this conversation.

the rude countdown clip may have been an outtake which was never aired but for some odd reason recorded as I guess if a rude words comes up they just stop filming and start the round again. Bearing in mind you can't even type cuntflaps on this site without it being censored i doubt it would get broadcast on national TV at 4pm

I guess they can still call it CECIL if they do decide to move Countdown production down to London.
