Apparently, Channel 4 executives are to confirm it today...

I've always thought Big Brother would better if it was done every two years. Treat em mean, keep em keen!

I genuinely enjoyed series 1 and 2 back when it was simple. The new house is too unhouselike, the format is tinkered with too much and its more and more *omg lets make it more dramatic* rather than just letting things run their course.

I agree. The original premise has been lost; the last few years have just involved a collection of outlandish caricatures desperately vying with each other for attention (and the all-important magazine deal on exit). Winning is of little importance as was shown last year when some HMs (Dale, Stuart et al) were desperate to leave in the final weeks as they felt they'd 'done enough' to secure the lucrative media deals.

It was far more enjoyable in the early days when friendships developed or foundered naturally and the producers didn't try to manipulate public opinion with ridiculous twists, fake evictions and late-entry HMs.

Perhaps it is time to call it a day rather than trying to breathe life into it with ever more bizzare ideas and HMs.

Big Brother 10 the last one? Never.

It _could_ remotely be the last one on Channel 4, but it makes them a lot of money, and holding on to the rights would probably be a good thing, even if they rest it for a year, and then bring it back.

If they decide they've had enough of it, expect to see Celebrity Big Brother on Ice in the winter line up on ITV, or Big Brother Uncovered on Sky 1. The show is still to big for Endemol to decide to finish it, so if C4 don't want it, it'll just go to the highest bidder (and ITV/Sky will probably pay more then C4 do now, provided they're still on thier "first refusal" deal with Endemol over the show).

We've not seen the back of Big Brother, not for a long while yet.

It wouldn't be a big surprise at all, and it's one Daily Star article I actually do believe.

It's a shame though C4 are apparently willing just to let it fizzle out rather than give it the one last chance to recover. I certainly believe there is scope for a full scale relaunch - whether or not it would work is another question, but I'd rather they tried and the show was axed because it didn't work rather than just axing it because they can't be bothered to try.

dosxuk - you're kidding yourself if you believe another broadcaster would pick it up. The show is not the desirable product it once was both in terms of status and profitability. ITV have no need for it really, while I doubt the numbers would add up for Sky or Five. If it does turn up elsewhere, it's not going to be for a few years.

Of course they would!. Sky revived Gladiators of all things so I'm sure they wouldn't think twice about snapping up Big Brother. While I agree it has had it's day there are still a good 2million or so who still flock to it and a smaller channel like Sky1 or Five would love those kind of figures.

Good ridance if it does finish after BB10. The first series was genuinely interesting to watch as it was such a different premise.

The second series, by which time E4 had come along and so provided you with much greater coverage of the house, was equally gripping.

But to my mind from series 3 onwards they've just been playing a 'what can we do next?' game to make things more and more sensationalist in an attempt to hold onto viewers, and as others have said actually winning the competition is becoming less and less relevant for the housemates - instead the aim is to get noticed in order to become a z-list celeb to keep the tabloid press and gutter magazines interested in you for a while.

I realise that C4 can justify making crap like Big Brother because it then pays for the better parts of their output, but to me BB is just crap too far.

As for who might pick it up, ITV I can't see wanting to make such a long term comitment as is required for BB (didn't C4 have to enter into an agreement to run it for years originally?), C5 I can't see being able to afford it, and Sky would have too limited an audience to make it pay for itself.

Personally I think the series got very stale after series 3 and depending on the housemates its been a bit hit and miss ever since, series by series. I think it could benefit from a break of a few years or just pull the plug now.

Yeah the fact is, since 2000 the world has got ever obsessed about "celebrity" so whereas when BB started it was all about an "experiment" its now seen as an easy route to fame. There was less intention of anybody entering the first BB with the expectancy of being splashed all over the glossy mags on their departure.

It can go on for many series to come with surprises, shocks, people getting it together etc but it will never be the same as the original because it has indeed ran its course. It's basically a waiting room for the likes of Heat magazine even if the housemates have no intention of going in there for that purpose...its what it is.

I agree, although for me Series 3 was the last decent one. After that it's got progressively worse, although at least a few years back you could watch bits of it. Now it's just completely unwatchable.
