I think cost is an issue as all the cameras and facilities would have to be converted - most people watching on analogue aren't that bothered about having thin black lines at the top and bottom of the screen.

Corrie lost me as a viewer ages ago! Smile Sad

You have mixed emotions about that, Ryan? http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/cheesy.gif

Nope, no mixed emotions! I have gone off Corrie completely in the past 14 months or so.

Coronation Street is going 16:9 in the next year.

As for the decrease in the quality of storylines, what do you expect when it's on up to 5 nights a week? Something has to give somewhere.

The editions that Granada Plus are showing were from a time when the programme was shown 2 or 3 times a week (Mon/Wed, then later Mon/Wed/Fri). Quality and Quantity generally do not mix.

Personally, 3 times a week is the best for a soap. Less than that they are cramming too much stroyline in, and 4+ is too much. EE and Corrie have got dry since they went 4 times a week (and corie seem to regurly sneak in an unnoficial 5th ep on a Thursday).

Corrie really has gone down hill. I mean who's actually interested in the Terry Duckworth storyline? Certainly not me, it's only been going on for the last year and a half!http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif Also the Janice carry on! How disgusting is that! Sometime I see my dinner infront of me again because it makes me want to be sick.

LOL Gary I know what you mean. Who cares for Les & Janice, Gail & The guy from Grange Hill. Oh, someone's having a baby at christmas.... surprise surprise... It's been dragged out too much now and the plots are getting worse, however the writing and acting is a hell of a lot better then Eastenders. Personally I think all the soaps have lost the plot, Brookside is on the verge of being taken off air for low viewing figures, Everybody in Emmerdale is screwing everyone else, Hollyoaks use the same plots day in day out, Neighbours & Home & Away lost it years ago... and then there's Night & Day and Crossroads... hmm. I won't even mention Family Affairs... I have noticed that C5 is about to show Son & Daughters again at 4.40am http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif
