So this Thursday will be the first time no new episode of any soap has been broadcast on UK television (in primetime, in English at least - both Doctors and Pobol y Cwm are schedule ATM) on a weekday in quite some time I'd have thought -possibly since 9/11, and the first time they've not been scheduled surely since the late 80s when Corrie went three times a week.

EastEnders was still broadcast on the night of 9/11 I believe.

Yes - was trying to find the schedules as I know they're on a site somewhere. Suspect though if it wasn't on BBC1 it would have aired on BBC2.

EastEnders aired as normal, as did Changing Rooms afterwards. Then they went back to the news.

Next Saturday night sees the start of Gavin & Stacey & Outnumbered repeats in primetime BBC One. I'm wondering what show they are replacing, as they wouldn't have ordinarily been in the schedule.

Is it the Little Mix singing show that has had to be postponed?

It looks like it is the lack of Sport. The entire evening is starting early with the news before Final Score would normally finish and Casualty is starting possibly earlier than it ever has.

Why are they starting Outnumbered from the beginning of Series 4? Why not show the whole series right from the very beginning?

Same could be said for the Miranda repeats, they've started them from the beginning of the third series. But that Gavin & Stacey repeat is S1 E1 so...

Outnumbered Series 1 hasn't been seen on the BBC since 2010, but Series 2 fared worse, since it debuted in 2008 and hasn't been seen since 2009 on the BBC, which is in contrast to most of the other series.

Not sure I think for me I see tv as a form of escapism so ideally I’d want to watch uplifting shows but in this day and age with millions of channels my argument there is a non starter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s to with whatever has a repeat run left in it. Outnumbered isn’t owned by the BBC so any airing of the first few series is subject to negotiation with Hat Trick.

What sort of an argument is that? You see TV as escapism, yet complain there is too much choice? How much more escapism do you want?
