Tim’s tweet would imply that it must have been down to a lack of staff. On the Last Leg they mentioned having to use different staff to stand in where others were absent. It’s going to be a tricky few months ahead.

of course there are plenty of freelancers across the broadcast industry who are now suddenly free, so while there could be a shortage of usual staff, there may be stand-ins available.

Possible that the staff who are off are ones essential to making the show and couldn't be replaced at the last minute.

Corrie & Emmerdale are ceasing production

Seemed inevitable.

Seemed inevitable.

And of course they’re not allowed to use Roys, The Rovers, the Bistro and they can’t film outside the Co-Op as there would be a massive queue.

The Co-Ops are the one place where it's actually not been too bad to shop.

Sad but not unexpected to see the usual sensationalist CANCELLED stories from the Express and others - they clearly have a template. The worst is for Casualty which wasn't even due to be on last night.

Assuming Emmerdale has the same backlog as Corrie, they'd be wise to now reduce that to three a week as well. Otherwise it'll run out faster than Corrie will.

I didn't infer that from Tim's tweet at all ?

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that a decision has been taken to minimise set/strike shows in studios wherever possible at the moment - as it's almost impossible to follow government social distancing policy when doing so. That would also explain why Lorraine is merging with GMB in TC3? It means Loose Women can be left set-standing in TC2 - significantly reducing the number of stage crew, and avoiding them needing to work closer than is safe to each other?

Certainly Studio 2 is out of action for now.

I presume that's been done on purpose - perhaps they would rather have Emmerdale not slow down too much to try and keep things as close to normal as possible than have both soaps cut down significantly. I'd say Corrie is the one of the two they really don't want to run out.

Another soap unsurprisingly suspends production...
