Surprised no mention of Have I Got News For You... very strange show tonight. Reminded me a little of the first series of Scratchy & Co.

Wasn’t as bad as I’d feared.

Despite my protestations it was mostly alright, with the exception of that awful silence after someone makes a joke and nobody laughs.

Although the opposite was also awkward, when someone told a joke and they all laughed in an over the top manner to fill the silence, which they wouldn’t normally do.

The first 15 mins was very stilted but they got into it a bit later.

They did have a virtual studio which was a nice touch but despite their best efforts it just didn't really work sadly, but I applaud them for trying and like with everything at the moment it takes a bit of adjusting too.

I wonder if it might work better with just Ian and Paul with a host, giving it more of a podcast feel.

It needs a virtual audience and the ability to record their laughter and include.

Better no audience than one reacting to a recording, I think. The participants need to be able to react to the audience as much as the other way around - think of all the times a joke has fallen flat only for Paul Merton to play off the audience's reaction (or lack thereof) and rescue it.

New Mash Report on BBC2 now, featuring a beard-less Nish Kumar, who looks like he's just come from the 1970s.

Yes, the guests didn't really add much and felt awkward.

Line of Duty is being removed from Netflix after its distributor went into administration.

I assume that ITV Studios will probably pick up Line of Duty since they own World Productions.

Just seen a promo for I'll Get This , new series starting on 14th April on BBC Two. Digiguide lists it as I'll Get This - Extra Helping (45m) and the description makes it out to be an extended edition. Has the half-hour version been dropped for something else, perhaps?

Newsnight has had to move to 10.45pm as they have to share studios with BBC News so it has to air later.

Yes I think HIGNFY just about worked. The fake studio would work better if the team two shots had a slightly different background from each other, and Ian's camera would be better at eye level but I think that was a great effort by all concerned.

Nish included a shot of his setup/view. Nice to see they still had the news desk, and many of their regulars. Interesting to see they opted for a separate webcam for when Nish was talking to others.

Looks like Milkshake on Channel 5 are running out of studio links, most of the programmes today are being linked by voiceover and graphics. Presumably their lead time was only a week or 2

As I mentioned above, Cbeebies has the same issue but I think they record 3 weeks ahead - they ask for birthday cards 4 weeks in advance. Will be interesting to see what they do, most of their links aren't that specific and they seem to have some generic ones too, but I imagine it wouldn't be long till they've been repeated too much
