I wonder if they'll address the current lockdown?
If I was in charge of the storylines, I'd keep it as vague as possible and avoid references to specific information around tiers, vaccines, lockdowns, etc. They cannot possibly reflect what's going on for the viewer "now" when they're filming a couple of months before the date of transmission. As a good example of this difficulty, look at a few months back when the tier system was introduced and the north west was placed into the (then) highest tier, and yet people on Coronation Street were still going about their business, having people stay over at their houses, etc, because it was all filmed well before the tier system was dreamt up. It's too changeable a situation in my opinion for them to even bother trying to provide a representative view of it and in any case, bar the basics of having people distanced and wearing masks accordingly, I personally think soaps should be acting as much-needed escapism for people with as few references to the virus in general.
