great pics Jez, did they say how they'd upgraded the set for Hd as it's not noticeable on the photos

they will have to sort out the side of the rovers now they have those side windows on the indoor set either side of the chimney, outside there is only room for one as the side door is where the other window is on the inside

it was interesting viewing the set from the museum (you can't now they've blocked the windows off Sad ) as some people would take ages to suddenly realise what it was they were looking at, thinking it was a row of little houses, and when told it's the corry set would say 'it can't be, it's too small.'

Yeah he said they had spent a lot of money upgrading the set for the HD.

They are also going to build a new street further down Victoria Street (passed Victoria Court and running alongside the big Warehouse building.) Whether this is meant to be just down the road from Coronation Street in the storyline or whether it is just a set for somewhere else in Weatherfield (if you get what I mean) I don't know. I do know they are hoping to cut down on the amount of location filming - stuff like Dev and Sunita's wedding, where Liam was killed and the enterance to Carla's flat (which is actually the enterance to where they film the inside scenes) have been filmed in the Granada complex as its much easier and less expensive to go on location so they will be looking to have more of 'Weatherfield' in the Granada complex by the sound of it.

This sounds really exciting, I love it when they add on parts of the set Very Happy Are they starting work on it yet or are they just planning? Smile

Hello everyone by the way, I'm new Laughing

Hi and Welcome Smile

They havent started working on it yet but we were told it costs a lot of money and time to film stuff on location - a 30 second scene set away from Coronation Street can be done much easier if they have more sets in the Granada complex. Hence Davenports, the police station, the enterance to Carla's flat etc all being around Granada.

I see this thread is rapidly approaching 1000 pages! IIRC, wasn't the previous Corrie thread closed at 120 pages?

Some newspaper is reporting the set move is going ahead, but it's a subscribe newspaper

It was closed but that was because everytime someone clicked on the last page it said "page cannot be displayed" or something.

Well according to David Nugent the move *might* take place but it wont be moving for at least 2 years if it does.

Shots from the first week in HD - Tony's revenge - look very slick. Look how cinematic it looks!

By the way, these aren't official shots; I capped them from the feature on the Corrie website with Gray O'Brien - there are two short sequence previews of the hostage stuff.

This + new opening titles = very exciting!

The set of Coronation Street - one of the jewels of ITV's crown - will almost certainly move to Salford Quays.
ITV's on-off move to MediaCity has been discussed in talks with Peel Media and a decision is expected soon.

The talks which collapsed last March after a fall out between Peel Media and ITV bosses were revived in January after the appointment of Archie Norman as the broadcaster's new chairman.

Press sources say that negotiations have been heavy over the past week and look close to being finalised.

It is expected that ITV, which is currently based on Quay Street in Manchester city centre will take around 100,000sq ft in the first phase of the landmark MediaCity development.

It sounds like the set wont be moving now, the same newspaper has a headline that ITV is denying the move to MediaCity

I emailed Corrie about the new area of the set that was mentioned, I got a reply saying this;

"Yes we are about to extend the Victoria Street part of our back lot but no date has yet been set. "

So it sounds like it will be Victoria Street still Smile

why the hell have they got the filmic effect, don't they learn!

Very Happy

I'm glad there changing the titles, but the problem with iconic things like them is that there hard to replicate!

Also two questions -
Is the title music changing ( I hope there is a slight remix, not too drastic, they wouldn't be stupid enough to change it too much - would they! Laughing )

And there was some discussion about the filmic effect - is it know whether Corries going to have it? ( I for one hope not - it's just about acceptable on drama's, but it just doesn't suit soaps!)

The filmic is already something i'm fearing..

*jots down in jotter Wink *

Looking forward to the changes though, and great street pics Jez.
