I was lucky enough to join a group of (mainly) Canadian fans on a tour of the Corrie outdoor set on Saturday morning - the get together was arranged for the 50th anniversary. It was amazing being allowed to look around the street for around 40 minutes. I was surprised how short the street looked at first and how small the houses are (have been on there before but not since 1996 when I was 15!).
The day before we got a location tour of various places they go to film, mainly in Salford. Places like the red rec, Audrey's house, Weatherfield Quays (which is actually Salford Quays), the church, the registry office where Jason escaped via the toilet window, the canal where Martha's boat was, the weatherfield town hall (which is actually in Ashton Under Lyme), where Richard drove into the canal/David drove into the Canal, where Tony tried to drown Roy.
The tour guide was very good and knew lots about Corrie having done a lot of work there for many years. When someone mentioned the amount of cast that have been axed recently he said not to be surprised if at least another 6 get axed as they are looking to reduce the cast. He also said they dont film on Saturdays but film on Sunday-Friday.
When we were at Salford Quays it was mentioned there were talks going on about Corrie relocating to Salford Quays but nothing has been officially confirmed. When I was talking to David Nugent who gave us the tour of the outdoor set, I asked and he said they have just spent a lot of money upgrading the Corrie set for the HD so it will be staying put for at least 2 years. I asked about Maria and whether she is returning long term and he said she is but wont be living on the actual street but will be in the show.
As usual I met some of the cast at the studio gates including Jane Danson, Alison King, Craig Gazey, Malcolm Hebden, Michelle Keegan.
Will post some photos once ive sorted them out. I took so many on the set.
