Wonder if the title sequence may be tweaked then - or heck, even completely reworked with a new drum and bass version of the theme! Very Happy

I think we'd all want that! Very Happy

I'm was surprised to read this earlier - I kept hearing Eastenders would be first. And that both the soaps would need to be relocated because of the fake looking sets!

eastenders set is more fake than corry as it's built with wood and plaster on scaffold rather than the real bricks and mortar of the corry set

the only bit that would probably look fake is Vera's stone cladding which is really lumps of coloured plastic on strips of wood attached to the façade.

never understood on the outdoor set why the front of number 7 is in new brick whilst the rear isn't

I thought ITV were intent on Emmerdale going HD first, but nevertheless it's good news to hear, and I guess its good news for those based at Granada Studios and that they're not going anywhere yet.

WOW this is good news Very Happy

But it confuses me because they said it would not work because of the quality of the set? are they rushing into this before the 50th later this year?

Also, I thought Emmerdale would be the first out of the two to go full HD.

Anyway, I am looking forward to this, I have been watching it up-scaled on ITV1 HD and seems ok.

The up-scaling on ITV1 HD is quite good.

It's even easier to spot (and laugh at) the shabby work in '60 Minute Makeover' when you see it on ITV1 HD, even though it's not native HD. Laughing

Shocked at this news. Exciting stuff, wonder if they'll use a new typeface for the title or stick with exactly the same thing. They may re-do the CGI shots, but who knows! Maybe CGI again but different, or no CGI. Surely the cat though!

I really hope it's good! Wonder also if the writer and director credits will move to the opening scenes of the episode like on the 2nd episode of the double bills and on Emmerdale.

Sounds good. I think it's time the theme music was at least remastered and the titles or credits could be a pan back of the whole street (which would probably only work in 16:9 but the idea's there).

someone I know emailed ITV and they said that the opening titles will also receive a revamp to coincide with the move to HD

I hope this is true - it's nice to have a change every so often ( lets just hope it's a good change! Laughing )

How long hae the current ones been used for?

About 8 years (that's the current widescreen version), the font change occurred 9 years ago.

I've read reports that 'HD ready' tv's will not receive HD signals so will we still be able to see HD programmes

That's kinda old news, basically Freeview HD uses DVB-T2 & H.264 to encode HD channels, whereas Freeview uses DVB-T and MPEG2 for Standard Definition. So in order to receive Freeview HD on an HD Ready TV you'll need an additional FreeviewHD set top box. That also depends on if the local transmitter has been converted or has the capacity as yet.

Or just get Sky+HD, Freesat HD and V+HD
