I think this new director certainly is living in the past. Coronation Street is hardly a "teen soap" like Hollyoaks and when thinking young characters, Ashley and Claire aren't those that spring to mind. Bringing back Bet and Curly is merely for publicity rather than storyline opportunities.

Have to agree. Corrie seems to really be on a high at the moment. From talking to people I know such as friends, family, colleagues etc more people than ever seem to be watching the show (although I know that's not strictly true ratings wise, its still doing pretty well!).

My point really is there is no need to change it, this is merely the new director putting his stamp on it. If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it. They do need to clear out a few bits of deadwood such as Ashley and Cluurrr but bringing in blasts from the past isn't going to add any more life in to the show and certainly wont bring in more viewers.

I disagree, I think ashley and claire are great. but claire is never on our screens!!

I am not normally a sucker for cute kids in soaps but Simon is testing me big time!

Well its never been mentioned that Ena died - obviously Violet Carson is dead but as far as I know the script has never mentioned Ena's death. Although I think its unlikely she would still be alive at the age of 111 but its not impossible. Albert and Elsie's deaths have both been mentioned, although Elsie's was on a video released in 1987 ish I think rather than in the actual show.

It would be good if they brought back the original cast who are still alive - not that many of them actually - think Linda, Dennis and Esther Hayes are still alive, and of course Ken but he is still there.

LOL, I know, I was just joking about them bringing Ena back. Laughing I think her death was mentioned in a video called "The Jubilee Years" from around 1985. Although it's interesting to think how the old characters would be portrayed and who would play them if they did an EastEnders-type spin-off set in the Second World War or something. I think there was talk of them televising the Daran Little wartime novels but the disadvantages were too big - they would have had to build a whole new street, essentially.

I believe Philip Lowrie who played Dennis has kept quite busy since leaving the street, I think he was in Doctors just last year.

June Whitfield was on This Morning... well this morning... and she was talking about her forthcoming stint in Coro

She is to play a friend of Blanche, and she will reveal the stunts they got up to together in Portugal! June Whitfield's old collaborator Roy Hudd, will be returning to Coro as Archie Shuttleworth-- hope they get some scenes together

don't think it would be too difficult, just put up façades across the new side for the factory and mission hall and maybe a façade on number 7 to make it look like the original, saw it done on location filming for a pre-war drama years ago where a terrace street had some new houses at the bottom so they put up a façade across the fronts to look like an idential terrace at the bottom of the road

Philip Lorery (?) who played Dennis Tanner has always shunned his Coronation Street past for some reason

he was in some of Victoria Wood's dramas

A mistake in the audio description on tonight's episode. Mary was called Sally by the fella doing the reading when he described her twisting the chocolate bar in The Kabin.

EDIT: And again, "Sally necks her drink in one".
