This is a really good account of the Grape Street set.
Thanks. On the pre 1982 set they could never show the end of the street as obviously the medical centre building and Rosamund Street wasnt there.
Ive probabably walked where the old set used to be a few times without realising - once the enterance to the studio audience waiting area was via the Corrie police station enterance, other times its been the Rovers Return set on Grape Street.
taken from I guess, the roof of the bondage warehouse...
Not taken from the dungeon then?

the book I mentioned where they said about the original outdoor set they did mean the grape street set because it said "somebody, nobody knows who, looked out of a granada office window one day and there it was, grape Street, a row of seven derilict houses sandwiched between a pub and a shop, right on their doorstep."of course there wasn't a factory and a gothic style mission hall opposite so that's why they put the flats up. Just find it really odd that somebody writing a factual book about anything be it coronation street or the mona lisa, should fabricate some of it.
Actually I think I've got the same book somewhere, possibly at my parents' house, as I remember that quote, and assumed it to be true for a long time - probably until I found otherwise earlier in this thread.
It does - its used for interviews with the Corrie cast on GMTV etc sometimes and also for a waiting area for the studio audience - do they still film any shows in Manchester anymore with a studio audience? Ive not heard anything for ages.

that was a really interesting read one the corripedia site, thanks for putting that up
looking on other parts I found that number 7 was demolished to make more space for the set and reduce the need to recast new residents, funny how they didn't rebuild it when they made the first outdoor set as I always thought that massive black wall in the gap looked silly and unrealistic as where there's a gap in a terrace they don't erect a 25 foot high wall, they just leave a space.
an early corry memory of the old set for me is the episode closing with Stan Ogden being told by a polceman to move his lorry from outside his house as it was facing the wrong way, and he parks it on the other side of the street, cue titles
I bet Jez knows what that episode was about, he could be our official TVForum corry archivist
FYI most of tomorrows opening titles, and all of the closing credits are of the lake area where Gail and Joe have been staying.
so expect them to be covered up with a plug for the website !
Yes, the closing titles on Friday consisted of a shot of the boat drifting in the sea. ITV1 and UTV covered the whole thing with various promotions and STV shrunk it down so small that it may as well not have been there. Pretty sure ITV2 do the same as ITV1 with regards to the credits, so I can only assume the closing titles are for the benefit of overseas viewers and those with access to a preview copy.
