Not too sure what to make of this:
Demolition firm to take axe to Coronation Street

The headline seems to suggest it's a done deal, but reaing it seems to be more that ITV have been "offered a package". But looks like a move to Salford it back under consideration eitherway.

I do like the daft way they report things, "the coronation street set, including the rovers return.... well obvously it's incuding the pub, they're relocating, they're hadly going to leave it behind are they Rolling Eyes

that's like saying HSBC bank HQ, including the vault, is relocating

anyway it's been on the cards for years, like the Eastenders set, which is only three years younger that the corry terrace

Whoever wrote the Guardian article (which was slightly updated this morning) doesn't have much of a thorough knowledge on the Street. The writer implies that the current set has been in use since 1960 - it hasn't, it's only been used since 1982 - and that it's seen "legendary" arguments between Ena and Elsie (wrong again...).

And they're referred to Hilda as the Street's "legendary old battleaxe". That's Ena! To me Hilda's the legendary gossipmonger.

Maybe if they do get a new outdoor set built, Media Guardian might get a new photo, rather than that same one they always use which predates the Rovers' fire and Jack and Vera's stone cladding.

that is an old photo from when the set was first built

rex features has some excelent photos of the outdoor corry sets

maybe the new one will be big enough to film inside the houses

That would produce a very oddly configured outdoor set, considering the TARDIS-like nature of many of the buildings - as we have often discussed on here! Wink

Would be nice to sometimes see one continuous shot of them coming from inside to out on the street - but you wouldn't want to film in them full time - not with their schedule. Too cramped and difficult to light.
