I don't remember Sunita being a particularly comic character? And I don't think Maya wasn't that funny either, considering what she ended up doing to Sunita and Dev.
As for the gay thing Karl Finch (hospital nurse who befriended Todd) wasn't a 'mincer' like Sean either, I recall?
On a side note, I note when Noris was scraping off Rita's name from the Kabin, he was interrupted by Tina... leaving "R Sull" above his head-- was this deliberate I wonder!
With respect Roger, I was refering to senior as elderly & the likes of Sunita & Maya, along with Dev haven't got to that age yet!
Why, when they introduce a senior Asian/Indian character, it always seems to be played for laughs?
I cringed every time I saw the 'comedy Asian/Indian' on screen.

most homosexuals I know are nothing like sean
quite why they have to go to the Jon Inman School of Mincing in order to portray a gay man is just insulting to gay men (I find it insulting and I'm not even homosexual)
why they can't just have a gay man in a soap who has a boyfriend and lives his life, why do the stories always have to be about his sexuality
anyway a question about characters filming in foreign locations, why is it that the location secnes are filmed way ahead of the storyline when the characters actually go so we've had roy and haley absent (presumably filming their romanian storyline) now they're back they will go off on their holiday, why don't the film the location in sync with the storyline so they characters don't dissapear twice
it was more noticable when they did the QE2 story because Raquel / Curly / Mavis / Rita were all suddenly not seen on our screens (whilst they filmed it) then they were all back before they went on the holiday, Raquel's absence was quite noticable as she was not in any Rovers scenes when Jack and Vera took over

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when they had Colin on Eastenders, as played by now MEP Michael Cashman, even when they introduced the boyfriend (Barry?) there was no mincing involved. I stand to be corrected of course, as its over 20 years ago now.
I just find it strange when gays & the like want to be treated as 'normal'(for want of a better word!), they have to put up with this characterisation.

I imagine this has more to do with the wish to have the DVD on sale in the shops when the storyline (or absence) is being explained on screen.
Soaps have a remarkably fast turnaround, with some episodes filmed as little as 4 weeks before transmission. I'm not sure how long it takes to manufacture, distribute and market DVDs, but I'd have a wild guess that it's a tadge more than 4 weeks.

Corrie seem to be filming way ahead of when its shown on screen at the moment. When I was there around 8 weeks ago they were filming what we saw this week as we saw some of the Carla scenes being filmed!
They seem to be filming more like 7-8 weeks rather than 4 weeks ahead these days.

It does seem that this is the case. According to the Corrie twitter, they're filming Christmas scenes at the moment. I always thought it was filmed maybe a month in advance at the most?!

They do film further in advance to make up for the 2 week production break yes but a friend of mine went to Corrie when they filmed Steve and Becky's (2nd) wedding and she met Andy McDonald and that was on screen 7 weeks later so id say 6-8 weeks seems the norm now.
They also film a lot of stuff out of sequence - Craig Kelly said his last day of filming was 2nd Sept, 2 weeks after Alison filmed those scenes and as we know he left the same episode she returned.

My apologies, I didn't notice "senior" when I replied-- perils of wearing contact lenses for too long of a day

Speaking of which, thanks to Jez for pointing out my other hideous blunder, I have edited it now. And I'll fetch my coat...

EastEnders is filming Early January at the moment
I always thought 6 weeks was the standard leadtime for all soaps. Of course in the run up to Christmas they will run even earlier so they can have a break
