why do we have to get rid of ordinary characters or dead wood, all communities have people who just live there and don't really get into much so whilst we have the Barlow and websters at it like a group of swingers in the words of Blanche, we also have the peacocks just being an ordinary family unit

Strong storyline tonight to start off Corrie's new Thursday slot. Still feels odd seeing Corrie on a Thursday tho.

Its nice to see Emily's niece again.

Is Emily still in it? I guess (apart from Ken Barlow) Emily must be one of the current longest-serving characters in Corrie.

I don't think it comes down to whether they're ordinary or not. For me it comes down to whether you can empathise with the character and whether you care about them. You can't get more ordinary than Emily or Betty, and despite her many traumas, Gail's pretty ordinary, but I wouldn't want to see any of them go. I just can't warm to Claire. Equally, I've never been able to warm to Dev, but he's far from ordinary.

Emily was in it last night - do you watch?

Emily is the 2nd longest serving having been there since episode 15 in 1961

As I mentioned in my post above, Jez, I have only recently (days ago) got access to Showtime Middle East through the merger with Orbit and - as such - only now able to access Corrie. The episodes shown in my region will be several weeks (or a month) lagging behind initial UK transmission. Therefore, even if I did watch last night, it would have been an entirely different episode.

Either way, I am pleased to hear that Emily is still in it.

I think you are about six weeks behind, sounds like the episode I missed when I was on holiday at the start of June

OK I apologise.

I met Rupert Hill today as he is doing a play in Cardiff currently, so I went along to meet him as I never did at Corrie.

Yeah I'm glad they've retained her, you'll be seeing comic scenes with her and Noris coming up! Just to recap from my previous post, the other current 'old-timers' other than Emily are: Ken, Deirdre, Jack (Vera died last year), Betty Turpin/Driver/Williams, Gail (plus son David), Rita, Sally & Kevin (with daughters Rosie and Sophie), Steve McDonald-- Liz McDonald is to return soon as well.
