As the script writers can allow a character to suddenly "decide" to be gay (ie Todd) then I suppose Sean could suddenly be "turned straight"... Rolling Eyes

I don't see the problem with Todd's storyline.

Speaking from a personal point of view, I was in a long term relationship with a girl about ten years ago, and as far as those who knew me were concerned, I was straight. No-one had any reason to think otherwise

Well many people that I know just assume I am straight even now (despite the fact ive never had a girlfriend and have a boyfriend) they have never asked me if I am gay (why would they?) so ive never told them. I think ive been put off telling more people after the way someone treated me when he found out.

As for the Todd storyline, well I think it was handled in the wrong way because he cheated on his fiancee and slept with another man. And I didnt like Karl either as he went and slept with Todd who he knew had a pregnant fiancee, without giving it a second thought. It would have been better having a gay character coming in with a boyfriend rather than the whole "coming out" thing.

In response to both Spencer for Hire and Jez I've been through pretty much the same as you two so I can see where you are coming from, however I think it all happened a bit too quickly (I guess that's the nature of soap). Maybe my last post wasn't quite right (reading it again) but I personally felt very let down by the way the whole Todd story was handled - mainly inline with your last paragraph Jez. I guess we all have our own personal experiences, I think I was hoping this would help me to come out to my family - but all I heard from them about it all was "Evil Karl turned him gay" etc etc... Then there was half the street with really bad reactions only balanced out by a 3 minute scene in the Rovers where everyone in the street backed Todd up (which my folks went and missed!).

I just feel that if they now let Sean get romantically attached to what-ever-her-name-is it'll just be another thing that makes people believe being gay can be switched on and off...

Perhaps I should buy my folks "Beautiful Thing" for Christmas... Laughing

I know exactly what you mean as my folks dont know either, I guess its easier to hide from them because I dont live at home anymore, and I suppose ive never really found the right time to tell them, or been prepared for the fallout afterwards. My brother has known for yearsand has always been fine with it. The Corrie storyline didnt really help me either as it showed gay people in such a bad light.

Tonights Corrie was very good again, liked the scenes with Steve and Karen, and the storyline with the Battersby's and Danny was good too. Wasnt keen on the stuff with Kelly and Sean.

Sounds like we have a fair bit in common Jez, it's almost exactly my situation too.
I also enjoyed the Steve and Karen scenes tonight - I loved the bit where she leaped on him when he lay ont he sofa! Although the Tracey/Steve/Karen triangle is really wearing thin for me, I just love Steve and Karen together - they just bounce of each other in every way - tonight it was almost a tragi-comedy with them.

I'm looking forward to bath time with Les/Cilla - and Schmeical (spelling?) !

I think a lot of it depends on your point of view. If you're a bigoted homophobe you'll probably think evil Todd and Karl set out to ruin Sarah's life. If you're a bit more open minded, and dare I say intelligent, you might have had more sympathy for Todd's suffering. In that way I suppose it's quite a good reflection of real life. However I can see that if you were thinking of coming out to your family it mightn't have been as helpful as you might have wanted - although to be fair Corrie is drama, not social action.

Anyway, good luck Pootle and Jez if you are planning on telling your folks. Personally I was terrified at the idea as my parents had often made jokes about 'queers' and the like, but once they'd got their heads around it they were completely fine, and actually get on really well with my boyfriend. Definitely one of the most difficult things I've done in my life, but one of the best.

Seconded. My dad was the biggest homophobe going but after coming out to him (in Pizza Hut) he now won't have a word said against gay people. It's surprising how some people react. Mum was fine with it too.

Well they are not so much homphobic and dont make jokes about queers etc, its just they dont approve of it, it is probabaly a generation thing for them, when they were my age it was a huge deal for people to be gay so they see it as being different, and just wouldnt accept. My brother has always been great with it and he is the only person in my family I trust, another member of my "family" (ex family as far as im concerned) was homophobic but if he was going to tell my parents he would by now. My folks have met my boyfriend twice but as far as they know he is just one of my mates, they do like him but if only they knew who he really was. Im never going to choose them over him though, why should I?

Well it was nice to see the TV Guide's with Corrie covers today, my fave was TV Choice with Sunita/Dev/Maya and the headline "Burn in Hell". But why have All About Soap gone for a EE cover with Dennis, surely Dennis chooses between whoever isnt a bigger storyline than the dramatic week in Corrie we have? The only reason they put Dennis on the cover is because he is is gorgeous and from EE so people will buy the magazine, I think its very unfair. Oh well it certainly looks like its going to be a good week on Corrie next week.

At least it might mean that they'll get rid of the stupid, stating-the-bleedin-obvious 'CORNER SHOP' sign. It's a bit like the Rovers having a sign above saying 'PUB'.

I see the prize vehicle was registered in Edinburgh, Scotland, despite the quiz taking place in London. Confused

Where did you spot that?

Tonight saw a new (addtional) sign saying, "D & S Alahan's". Not got much of a ring to it, has it? Confused

Lovely stuff tonight with the bath falling through the ceiling. Highly dubious that they would land in one piece and neither injured nor electrocuted, but I'm prepared to suspend my disbeleif on the basis that the excellent Cilla was involved.

Corrie is brilliant at the moment. There isn't a character in it I don't rate.

Compare and contrast with EE...

The registration commences with SL54.Therefore, S = Scotland, and the second letter L is allocated to Edinburgh.
