I agree - really good episodes tonight, in some ways reminiscent of the Rovers fire in the 1980s.

It reminded me of that too Nicky - one of my earliest memories of the show.

I agree the boy playing Simon is a rising star (Alex Bain)

suddenly noticed how the new flat entrance to the bookies does not match the interior set as technically speaking you should enter the flat from the forth wall behind the camera Confused

the original entrance used to be in Victoria street opposite the café which would match the interior set with the characters coming in where they do at the back of the set, with the windows on the left facing Rosamund street. Since they put the bookies set inside the outdoor façade they've had to do away with the side flat entry in Victoria Street and build a new one on Rosamund street so would it have not made sense to redesign the flat interior accordingly Confused

I know I should have been a set designer Rolling Eyes

Good episode of Corrie tonight - best we have had for a few weeks.

I agree, there was enough drama for one decent episode tonight. It's just a shame they had to pad it out to 50 minutes with unnecessary 'Dev dialogue'.

Curse of the double episodes.

I agree with everyone - Simon is brilliant.

Tuned into Corrie for the first time in an age as I knew there would actually be a bit of drama in it for a change. Why is Dev still in the soap, that man really cannot act. Totally agree with everyone about Simon, we have another Chesney in the making.

On a personal note, I really wish they would return Corrie to three episodes a week and bring back 30 minutes of pure well written drama instead of 5 minutes of it. The only blessing is a couple of decent lines from Blanche. Give that woman a sitcom!

Now you are just going to have to draw that for us, because I (for one) was lost by your description.

Have a go...

I always wanted to follow in the steps of my Uncle who was a set designer for Granada (he even did Corrie back in the day) but he said it was 'too difficult' to get into, and tried to put me off.

Tsk @ him, I would've been OK!

Why? Because It can act like a child? I wonder why that is? Perhaps because it is one? It cannot even do that very good and as for Chesney (AKA Deep Ginger), well, all It does is wave It's arms around around and shout in a horrible deep northern accent.

'Simon' is also clearly not of english origin yet It's father is.

I hate it when people think people are good actors just because they are 'children'.

As for the Turf Accountants fire, very dull, also Fire Engines do not come that quick even if the Fire Station was at the end of 'the street'. The original and the best 'Soap Fire' was the Rover's Return Inn fire which was realistic (except that there is always one idiot who tries to take charge (normally but not in this case, with his shirt on)) exciting (makes a change on Coronation Street) and best of all the damage to the building was fantastic.

EastEnders may be dull and to sophisticated for all you Northern 'folk' but it is much more realistic and interesting than the over the top trying to be funny Coronation Street (although they have a nice theme tune).

Subclause: This post is not aimed at anyone in particular and are the opinions of InventThamesValley2. Anyone quoted in this post should not be offended and if so it was not mean't.

Yes he's a child, but to me there's more of a believability that it's the soap characters child/grandchild. Than with Amy who stares into a blank space

I could argue that Simon didn't stay still very well when in the hospital bed - you could see him struggling to keep his eyes shut, but yeah, he's a good child actor. Better than the "straight out of acting school" you get in EastEnders.

If you consider EastEnders sophisticated, then you really aren't.

Obviously not sophisitcated enough to use the correct spelling of 'too' when refering to an amount

at least the boy playing simon acts like a child and not a prop, like Amy does, seem more acting from the pillar box

As for Chesney, he's got a northern accent and he's ginger, so, Tiffany in Eastenders has a London accent and she's ginger, wow there are ginger haired children on TV, what's is the issue with ginger hair, it's a pigmentation of hair colour, not an illness, so just live with it Rolling Eyes

Eee, no wonder the place caught fire Wink Seriously though, interesting observations you make there, I admire the way you always visualise dimensions of the Street set so readily; I must admit I had to think hard about the above description Embarassed... I got there in the end!

I think the kid who plays Simon does a great job. Assuming that he's the same age as Simon, how many five year olds could perform to that professional standard I wonder? He is certainly more charismatic than Ryyannnnn, who's ten years older than him!

As for Eastenders: I've tried watching it over the years, but every time it has left me cold. I would suggest if you want a quality soap on the BBC, I'd recommend Doctors . I started watching it in the summer, and it leaves EE in the shade in my view: Interesting and varied characters, good storylines, convincing acting sprinkled with humour-- Owen Brenman as Dr Heston Carter is hilarious. There are a few dull episodes, but on the whole I'd rate it higher than EE any day.

thanks for the architectural recognition Roger, for me the inside has to match the outside to remain believable, you don't walk into a house with the rooms to your right from the outside and once inside turn left into the rooms Confused

the bookies layout is like this (very simplified due to inability to draw on a forum)

inside set
