I guess the 7,000th episode isn't really the huge milestone it once might have been when you consider they get through 1,000 episodes every four years these days.

Yes it used to take them almost 10 years to to through 1000 episodes!

I cant wait to see what they come up with for the 50th!

Audrey's such a hypocrite what with nobody believing her when Richard Hillman was trying to kill her.

Possible 'surprises' for Coronation Street's 50th:

- Someone gets murdered
- Some kind of blackmail
- "A young 'un" sleeps with someone

Why not something nice.
Such as Emily Bishop re-marries? Hilda Ogden returns? Or, the residents find out the Rovers Returns turns 100 and all dress up from that period? Or an episode ends where all the pensioners conga down the cobbles for a street party celebration?

Or get Michael Winner on to say to Ken Barlow: "I'm with esure. You're with esure. Now here's the weather sponsored by... esure Insurance!". Nah. Too far-fetched!

You can guarantee it'll end with a speech from old Ken.

They celebrated the Rovers' 100th birthday back in 2002. I'm pretty sure I've read that Jean Alexander (Hilda) didn't want to return to the Street, partly because she'd look "out of place" in the programme now.

...and why not? Laughing

Id love to see Hilda return, and Mavis Wilton, however im sure both actresses have said they wont and that Corrie isnt as good today as it was when they were in it.

Going from Prince Charles, to Michael Winner Laughing "Calm down dear, it's only royalty". Hmm, maybe not.

Your first lot of surprises sounded like an EastEnders Christmas special! Maybe Richard Hillman could back from the dead. May sound ridiculous, but not as creepy as the storyline on Doctors yesterday... what was Ruth's phonecall all about Shocked

Perhaps they'll have some do at the Rovers, to celebrate somebody's birthday, engagement or whatever.

Betty's 90th will be in February 2010 so a bit too early for the 50th. I do think they should do something special for Betty tho - and also this June she will have reached 40 years behind the bar at the Rovers.

Great episode of Corrie tonight - I felt the whole Jed/Tony/Maria/Carla storyline moved on a lot and now Carla is on to Tony whilst Maria is backing down.
