Dont mention it Stuart
.
And where did I post spoilers recently in this thread? I thought we agreed not to use spoiler tags in this thread as its very tedious writing stuff in white? People who really dont want to know anything would need to avoid internet sites and magazines/newspapers anyway.
I hardly think me saying that
is a big spoiler anymore - ive hardly gone into major details about the plot either as I dont know much myself especially how it happens.

It would all depend on how well they are written, if they are played by decent actors etc. You cant say that a new family will go the same before they have even been on screen. Give them a chance. They will need a new family as they will have a couple of empty houses to fill - I assume Maria wont stay at Number 7 on her own, and Number 6 will also be empty.
New families are always hit and miss - going right back to the Claytons in 1985 who lasted about 8 months.

And I see the circle of life will be starting again as they're casting yet another family - who will surely go the same way as the Mortons and Harris's before them.

Depending on whether or not you consider the Conners to fit the "family" bill, I can't say really that a family has been introduced into the Street in one go successfully since the Battersbys - and if the producers had listened to the early criticism of them they'd have been gone within months too.

The Mortons and Masons will be gone by the end of next month. I hope this new "Windass" clan are good, though judging by their name ...

I think they should introduce the new family next year, say January. As their is still cast to depart this year.
I don't know if it's been mentioned here or not but Roger (Janice's boyfriend) exits in October.

I agree, Brekkie, it takes along time for a whole family to become integrated into the Street. I think that's why many soaps prefer to use the 'old faithful' trick of just adding hitherto unmentioned long-lost relatives to boost the cast numbers when regular characters leave.
I certainly didn't like the Battersbys when they first arrived. They seemed such an unbelievable stereotype: lazy husband, loudmouth wife, unruly teenage brats. I never did quite warm to Les though, so I was rather pleased when he eventually went.

There's another character that really had no purpose.
This new producer needs to get out of the old habits of employing an actor without any long term plans or storyline for them.
Roger was seemingly only brought in to lend our Leanne some funds to buy the ill fated restaurant. Other storylines include :
Fixing Janices plumbing
Going to France
Fitting the Barlows a bathroom suite
Going on a booze cruise
Have I missed any of Roger's illustrious Corrie career ?

Its generally down to how likeable the characters are and how the fit in with the other characters in the street. The Clayton, Harris and Morten families were generally not very interesting characters, apart from quite recently when the Mortens have got a lot better. Do people really like them enough to have them stay tho? Apart from Darryl and Teresa I wouldnt keep any others.

Despite them having grown on me, I agree with you. Darryl and Teresa are the best out of a bad bunch. Nice to hear he'll be staying for a while, but would Theresa be much use on the street without Sinb.. erm, 'Jerry'? Can't think of what she'd do apart from maybe look after Darryl, if they did stay on.
