The way they introduced the Mortons and Bookies was wrong I admit (they all came together and then only had storylines mainly within themselves, hence we had 'Morton' storylines instead of a storyline with someone and a Morton)

But by now I think they are ok as they have mixed with other characters

I'd say keep them, because they'll only introduce a new set and the cycle starts again. That middle house on the posh side has had a long line of characters that don't stay very long

you mean number 6

you're right maybe it's jinxed for being built on the spot Ernie Bishop died Shocked

Well that was a ridiculous storyline with Audrey and Bill's car getting a flat tyre then they crash into the woods. Predictable.

Not sure it's been mentioned here but re: the Mortons:

One of the papers reporting last week that the one who's a copper will be a victim of an attack by the most vicious thugs of all - yes, teenage girls!

I wonder if this will lead to their exit.

Much better episodes tonight, you've got to love Audrey - even though the storyline was a little predictable!

From The Mirror;

Exclusive: Shock at Coronation Street's cull of leading actors
By Brian Roberts 8/08/2008

How stars are to quit Coronation Street

Corrie's autumn cull will see a mass exodus of more than a dozen leading characters.

And the Mirror can reveal how the favourites leave as new boss Kim Crowther makes her mark on the soap.

Weatherfield has never seen so many people quit in such a short time, with the likes of the Morton family and dad and son bookies the Masons all leaving town for good.

Bosses plan to replace them with new characters they hope will breathe fresh air into the show.

A Street source said: "There were plenty of shockwaves when news started to break of the departures. Some of the cast were shocked to say the least but grew to accept their fate. It shows that the new boss wants to take the show forward and isn't afraid of ruffling feathers along the way."

First out will be ex-Rovers barman Vernon Tomlin, played by Ian Reddington. Viewers have seen him get his marching orders from wife Liz and start working at Roys Rolls.

In coming months the ageing musician gets the big break he has longed for and moves to London after being offered a lucrative recording deal.

He will be followed by gay stenographer Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou) and bookies Harry and Dan Mason. (Jack Ellis and Matthew Crompton). Marcus leaves in tears after being dumped by Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) over his affair with an old boyfriend. Sean makes him promise never to return.

Womanising bookmaker Harry chooses a romantic reconciliation with his wife Clarissa (Alexandra Boyd). But only on her condition that he never shows his face in Weatherfield again.

Eventually son Dan also decides life on the cobbles is not for him after falling out with girlfriend Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).

Heart attack victim Jerry Morton (Michael Starke) realises if he is to avoid a fatal seizure, he must end the stress of running his kebab shop. So he decides to sell up for an easier life in sunny Spain.

His kids jump at the chance to go too, so as well as ex-wife Teresa (Karen Henthorn), fans will also lose Jerry's sons Darryl (Jonathan Dixon) and Finlay (Ramone Quinn) and daughters Mel (Emma Edmondson), and Kayleigh (Jessica Barden).

Policewoman Abi Sharpe (Rachael Elizabeth) leaves after a savage beating from a gang of female thugs forces her to retire.

And just as fans get over their losses, soap favourite Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier) gets killed off in a gruesome whodunnit murder.

The Corrie source added: "It's a big clearout but it also opens the door for some fantastic newcomers."

Well things are looking up with so many of the dead wood characters leaving. The only ones I will miss will be

Teresa, Darryl and Liam. Smile

Hmm Jez.: Can't imagine why you'll

No doubt Ken Hopkirk will coming out of retirement for The Royal .

It worries me that they're going to bring new characters in who are a "breath of fresh air"-- where have we heard that before? I find the characters who come in without fanfare tend to be the best newcomers-- Becky, Tony or Tina for instance.

Whilst I welcome this cull of deadwood, I don't think the Street needs anymore new characters after that, certainly not for the time being.

So true. New characters generally don't give quick results because they are new, and although a year ago most of those on the cull list would have been the right decision, I do think now most of them have bedded in it seems pointless to get rid and start the process again.

And they still don't axe Dev.

Re: the bookies.

Isn't Peter returning to run the bookies?

He is Brekkie. Not sure when tho.

I agree they shouldnt introduce too many new characters in a short space of time. They should concentrate on developing so many who are underused.

Jed Stone returned to Corrie last night after a 40 year absence! I wonder if he will have any scenes with Ken or Emily, the only 2 who would remember him. Im enjoying the Tony storyline I have to say, he is a good villan who will clearly stop at nothing. And now Rosie has got Carla worried by mentioning the lovely Liam Wink

Nice to see Jed back, I do wonder whether it was just a one-off though. Hope not as it would interesting to see him on the street itself, seeing how much the other side of the street has changed since his last visit!

I'm also enjoying the Tony storyline too. Can't fathom why you're calling Liam "lovely" though. Wink

Funny how The Mirror says the people exiting are "quitting" - when they are being given the boot! Laughing

Typical tabloid stuff "Corrie's autumn cull will see a mass exodus of more than a dozen leading characters"

There is nobody listed that could be classed as one of the main leading characters!
