I know, it was rather odd to see. Despite the massive flaws with the interior/exterior plans of the Rovers, do you exit the Rovers kitchen from that door?
Very funny first episode tonight, with Blanche thinking that Ken and Ted are secretly having a relationship together: "Listen Deirdre, I have no problem with the gays though - I'd walk over hot coals for Paul O'Grady..." Classic.
I'm already tired of this Liz/Harry/Clarissa storyline. A love triangle has to be one of the least interesting things a soap does.... in spite of all that though I'm keen to see the clashes between Liz and Clarissa!

good god they've just used the side door of the rovers for the first time in 26 years

I didn't even know they had one, although the scarcity of its appearance challenges my memory beyond tolerance levels. It seems rather superfluous and makes even more of a mockery of the internal dimensions of the 'Rovers'.

EDIT:
Oh dear, more Dev golf scenes. I had to fast forward through those. The frequency of these are really putting me off being a regular viewer.

I loved this scene between Blanche and Dierdre. Only Blanche's character could get away with so many homophobic clichés in the space of two minutes and possibly damage the camomile tea industry in the process without inviting legal action. She'll be joining Stonewall to 'out' Ken next! A true classic, indeed

There certainly used to be stairs from the shop to the flat.
that was before Alf extended the shop into the back room way back in the 1980s, the internal stairs were removed and the stairs with separate entrance put in.
amber just appeard from off camera like she'd just walked onto the set (she probably did)
not that we are meant to have any memory and notice things like that, or the fact that Prem is Dev's father's identical twin brother and therefore Dev's uncle

and talking of bad set design where did Amber appear from when there are no direct stairs from the shop to the flat

I remember. However im sure I remember after the Mid 80s revamp of the shop Alf and Audrey going up to the flat via the shop rather than the outside enterance. I assume then since Amber appeared from a door in the back of the shop they have put a new route from the shop to the flat in when the shop was refurbishe in 2004.

Agreed the Blanche scenes tonight were classic stuff.
I thought those scenes were funny too. The idea of Ken reading Armistead Maupin cracked me up alone-- didn't think Tales of the City would be Ken's scene
If I were Ken, I'd play along with Blanche's accusations (and encourage Ted to do so)-- that would shut her up-- if you can silence Blanche!
