I'm glad that Liam and Maria are off for a while though as that was one plot that was just abou to tip in to the "oh not this scene again" problem of the Michelle and Alex bore-athon (I'm not missing Michelle one bit...).

Me neither! I used to like Michelle but she has been so overused I went off her a long time ago!

Im also glad to have a break from Maria and Liam for a bit. I actually felt a bit sorry for Carla when Liam told her he was back with Maria. Only my sister agrees with me - everyone else ive asked thinks Carla deserves all she got!

Glad you enjoying Corrie again! I think from tommorow the new producers name will be on the credits and I know some here will be glad to see Steve Frost's name disappear! Wink

Thanks Jez, I really had started to wonder why I was watching - but lately I've really enjoyed it. You weren't the only one to feel a bit sorry for Carla; yes she's a bitch, but she's right really - Maria and Liam aren't meant to be together as she's not what Liam wants deep down. You see, I care about these characters!

I think the show is steadily improving but there are still so many flaws and I think it's far too early for me to be say that it's returned to form (although I respect your opinion Jez).

They still have a big problem with allowing certain storylines to dominate the show with a capital D. First Michelle, then David, and then Liam/Maria/Carla. It takes overkill to a whole new level. Too much deadwood. Too many characters who serve no purpose. But like I say, it's improving albeit slowly, and I still think they have some talented writers on the show. Simon Crowther in particular has just shone this past year. Jonathan Harvey also remains as reliable as ever.

I have a lot of optimism for the future of Corrie under Kim. She's already made some good decisions disposing of unpopular characters. But the axe needs to be wielded on a few more, although I'd be against any sort of blood bath at this stage. Better to get rid of them over a longer period of time, rather than in one go which would just come across as contrived and would probably do more harm than good.

I know they've been blamed several times, but the Friday double episodes are probably a key reason certain storylines seem to be dominating the show.

Obviously with the doubles they want a key storyline to feature, so where as a year or so ago a big story would play out on the Monday and then perhaps take a back seat for the rest of the week, now the big stories have to dominate the Friday episodes too, meaning you don't really get a break from them.

I think you've probably hit the nail on the head there. I don't think it's ever been as big a problem as it has become this year.

Well I dont really think Liam is right for Carla either. I kind of prefer Liam with Maria. Carla is a great character and Alison King was excellent the other night in those scenes where Liam told her he was going back to Maria.

Yes there is still a problem with 1 big storyline dominating. Thats why the best episodes are often the ones with a few storylines running. The funeral last week, although very emotional and difficult to watch, was a good episode as it had some light reliefwith the Websters/Peacocks house swap storyline.

I also agree about the Friday doubles - its since they introduced them that Corrie went a bt downhill. Perhaps it was more the Michelle/Ryan/Alex storyline which has been my least favourite storyline this past year, but I think 1 double episode a week is enough, 2 is just overkill. Corrie is definately a lot better than it was a few months ago.

I see "Gaaaail's faaaather" didn't stay around for long then.

"Coooeee? Ted?"
"Oh give it a rest mam!"

Apparently we've by no means seen the last of him.

I read that too. Although he's "moving back south" for the time being, the character appears to have been a hit-- so watch that space!

I've noticed quite a few times that a character has appeared for a brief run before disappearing, only to reappear a while later as a permanent fixture. It's almost as if they're testing reaction, and if unpopular, they don't need to go to the trouble of writing the character out.

Ted was a good character, and played really well I thought. Hope he returns.

The Sun say today that Anthony Cotton has signed a new 2 year deal. Confused

Also that Vernon leaves in September and Harry (the bookie) has had his contract extended, presumably he will become further involved with Liz.

at least Gail's Dad looks old enough to be her dad. Unlike Audrey who doesn't look much older than her daughter.
