Roger, you're repeating yourself, do you have indigestion?

No just paying tribute to Fred Elliot, I say just...

It didn't appear to have posted the first time, obviously it had! I clearly need to give my laptop some Antacid. Apologies, duplicate post deleted Wink

I don't mind Marcus; I think was OTT at the beginning, try to out-camp Sean (if that's possible-- even Noris can't manage that). However he seems to have calmed down of late, I like his voice of reason role regarding Lauren at the moment.

Speaking of which, when does Lauren sling her hook?

Don't know if there's any truth in this, but The Sun today is reporting that five of Corrie's longest-serving actors could face the axe by the end of the year.

I can't help feeling it's mostly the newer characters which need the boot, with the notable exception of Becky.

I doubt there's truth in this either but I wouldn't be surprised if Emily Bishop is one of the longest serving due to be axed. In fairness, she hardly gets any storylines or scenes now. I often wonder whether she's just kept in because she's been in the soap the second longest.

I think there's something to be said in favour of the older characters like Emily and Betty, even if they don't really do anything. They provide some continuity, and I would argue a bit of realism - every community has its old biddies who don't really do a lot!

Betty and Blanche. They can't get rid of those!

If the Hot-Pot lives on, then so should Betty. I think this is a wrong turning point, if they are thinking of bringing out the axe on some of the older characters. Why does it want to be 'sexy'? We don't want another Hollyoaks, thanks! Corrie really is going to the dogs, and bringing in younger and younger characters isn't the way to make it any better.

I wasn't happy when I read this "Up to five of the soap’s longest-serving actors could be gone by the end of the year.." however I was pleased when I read the following "..It’s not only them. Some of the very new characters who have not worked out will also get the boot." Alot of the new characters need the axe.

It's the long established characters that are keeping the show afloat. They're losing iconic characters like Mike Fred and Vera fast and failing miserably to establish decent new ones. That's where Eastenders' problems started...

I agree, I mean, I don't have a problem with Betty - she's given some great one liners and helps continuity along in the Rovers. She often gets involved in conversation with her point of view. Emily is merely just there to have a sweet sherry and agree with Rita about Norris's behaviour. Although I suppose there's a small lust storyline coming up with Jack now he's a single man. I just think we don't see enough of Emily. We see more of Betty and she's about 15 years older.

It would have been good to see David smash up Emily's front window and see her come out and join the street in a glaze of disgust. But, maybe I'm just being petty.

I agree though that the older characters provide continuity that would be lost if the show was just populated by characters who have only been around for a few years.

It's very interesting to see that the majority of the characters who are problematic are the ones who have been introduced more recently. It should be the newer characters being axed, not the older ones.

The 5 characters i would axe are:

Dev
Amber
Lauren
Roger
Janice

Keep the old biddies in. Save the corrie OAPs! Don't bring any newbies in yet and work with the characters left. Give the Mortons a chance and there is a great opportunity for some good comedy from Becky and Roy.

You missed Lloyd...

And wasn't Lauren supposed to be leaving according to 'This Morning'?

I like Amber.

I'd axe:
Dev
Lauren
Emily
Alex
Vernon
