That bunch have certainly been missed. The show has never been as good since they left but it still had its moments, but now it's seeing a rapid decline in quality. The show is just dire right now.

I thought tonight's two episodes were good. The storyline involved popular characters like Roy and Becky. Some good comments from Norris

The business with Violet's sister's bra was amusing with Liam asking her to take it off, on professional grounds only

Plus hardly any Ryan/Alex stuff

By the way Ryan seems to be at the complete opposite end of the scale to Daryll when it comes to his face reacting to the script Laughing

Tony Wood? His first year was good but his second was dire. During that time we had the ridiculous boxing match, Les and Cilla's wedding (which I still think was one of the worst episodes of Corrie ever) and all that stuff with Scooter and the fish which was so boring ive forgotten what it was all about now.

Steve Frost sorted Corrie out and we had a great year in 2006 and most of 2007. Its only the last 2-3 months that Corrie has got boring, and a lot of that is down to the scheduling (2 on Fridays) and the same storylines/characters being on screen all the time.

Yes tonights was good because we had a break of the Ryan/Michelle stuff apart from a few scenes.

I don't agree that Frosty sorted it out at all. Yes, it's very easy to blame it on the scheduling but the fundamental problems have been there for a long time now, and it's taken the Friday double to highlight their utter incompetency. If he was any sort of producer and if they were any sort of team then then they'd have embraced the challenge. Instead they've acted as though they don't know what they doing and what we see now is the result... Well done Steve.

Well don't really agree with you there. Cilla and Les's wedding wasn't that bad - and it was supposed to be over the top and ridiculous. As for Scooter and his fish - I'd rather that than anything to do with the Mortons anyday. I thought Scooter had a bit of potential and it was a shame he swiftly got the axe.

Well it was finally nice to see a different cliffhanger not involving Steve, Michelle, Ryan etc.. unless of course, the next thing is, Michelle lets Chesney live at the Rovers for a bit. Shocked

There's still some comedy moments in Corrie which keeps it together but the thing is, the scripting is so stretched at the moment it becomes silly.

Nah, its only since the Friday double was introduced it got really repetitive. Storylines went around in circles enough before but that has got worse since then. Im not "blaming" it on the scheduling, im saying in my experience I find the Friday doubles hard going, it's bad enough on the Monday but on a Friday I find it a real struggle especially going back after that half hour break.

Well what about Kieran Roberts then as Exec Producer?

Well I always thought Kieran was good when he was producer so one can only assume it's Steve doing all the hands-on work, with Kieran overseeing things and giving it his stamp of approval. I don't think any of us believe he's there everyday, working alongside Steve - especially since he's the controller of drama at ITV Productions in Manchester so he's got other things to worry about as well.

I agree the Friday double has certainly brought with it the repetitive plots and scenes and storylines with little development, but there have been other issues affecting the show since early last year. The introduction of weak, two dimensional characters, the poor structuring of storylines, the terrible execution of dramatic plots and we even had this issue of one storyline dominating and going nowhere with Ashley, Claire and Casey last year. And it's all down to Steve who really has proved he is not capable of running a massive show like Coronation Street that really needs a lot of care and attention. If you don't have a passion for the show then you might as well not bother. As far as I can tell, he simply sees it as a 'job' and when he leaves he'll just be leaving another job and moving on to a new job.

The show really needs somebody who is absolutely in love with the show and wants to make sure it is at its very best. Currently, Corrie is rife with continuity errors, plot holes, contrived situations and improbable plot devices. It's just a mess in all honesty. IMO.

Much like EastEnders and their flurry of Exec producers in the past few years.

Yes I think last night's epis were a slight improvement, a pleasant distraction from the Ryyyyannn et al storyline. Liam and the bra was quite amusing I thought, some of Becky's lines were funny and heartfelt. I think the actress behind Tina is already hitting her stride, hope she sticks around.

Dan Mason is on the show for three years, and in the short-term will get close to Leanne: Actor Matthew Compton was on Loose Women yesterday; he came across as charming, funny, bubbly and very down-to-earth-- and got on with the loose ladies well.

It's a shame they couldn't have picked a better character for him in Street-- I don't think Dan does him any justice Confused

Spot on. The show's just sloppy all round - even when it comes to simple things like props. Last week's Harry Hill featured the extra posting an invisible letter, which was straight out of Acorn Antiques. Last night we had Gail looking at a completely full bottle of salad cream, telling Audrey that there was 'a little bit left'. The whole 'We professionals notice these things, but Joe Public never clocks a damn thing' mentality seems rife at the moment.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Laughing

Continuity aside, I'm just glad the whole Ryan-Alex thing has taken a step back. Kym Ryder is a talented actress and has settled into Corrie very well, no doubt about that, but I can't help feeling that she's been overused in what was (is?) the wrong storyline.
