The scenes with Kirk and Chesney felt like padding as well - especially when Norris came round to complain about the noise.

The whole point of that was so Norris could see the mousetraps which leads into next week's storyline. You'd be complaining if Chesney just appeared at the centre of a storyline without appearing for months before

The Ryan/Alex storyline seems to be much more minor next week

I'm complaining that he's appearing at all. Doesn't sound like the most riveting of stories.

I still like Corrie, don't get me wrong, I just feel they are being stretched too much what with having to keep cliffhangers going for the Monday/Friday doubles. There seems to be story structure problems at the moment hence they've had to rely on Ryan/Alex for weeks on end.

Too many of the same characters and storylines get featured all the time (currently Michelle, Steve, Ryan, Alex) , whilst other characters are hardly seen at all. This isnt just Corrie as Emmerdale used to be just as bad but recently they seem to have a better mix of storylines than Corrie.

Look at the Platt's, they have had non stop storylines since 2000, mainly featuring Sarah, even during the Hillman storyline she was one of the main players in it, and now she has gone and there is only David and Gail left they are still getting storylines. I like Gail but think David needs to be rested now.

Often the only suspense in each episode seems to be waiting to find out whether they have written some stupid and meaningless line for Dev to SHOUT at someone.

Aye that's right, he played PC Sam Harker in The Bill. A comeback there is well out of the question what with his tragic passing following the Sun Hill station explosion back in 2002. From what I can remember about the character, he seemed a well to do, passive sort of bloke who was in no way manipulative.

PC Sam Harker was indeed an easy-going, bubbly and benevolent character. Until Des Taviner blew him up in the Sun Hill fire, back in the days when Paul Marquess seemed intent on wrecking the show. These Brookside types eh.

Fast foward to 52''

Don't know what Matthew Compton is like in real life though, never seen him interviewed or anything.

Stupidest scene there. As if you'd just strip to your underwear in a bookies.

It was pathetic - why would Dan demand he strips (is he really going to ebay the clothes or something? They'd not even fit him...).
Why didn't Paul put up a fight - most straight guys would've called him a perv or something. Dan didn't even shove him - he was just standing there demanding he strip - and he did! It wasn't even funny as it was so unrealistically stupid.

Me thinks one of the writers had some sort of homoerotic idea going on in their head when they penned that scene... Then Jack casually gave all his winnings away... nah.

Week after week the standards drop Crying or Very sad

There's Ken reduced to little more than an extra in the cafe (so much more could've been made of the Becky / Ken pairing).
The comedy has all but vanished.
All of the Conor clan are getting on my nerves - all of them are really over-used.
The Platts - yaaaaawn

What's happening to my fave show? Confused

I thought it was all hyperbole when people were said Vera Duckworth leaving is the death of the show, but since her final scenes the show has been utter ****. Whats happened to the writing teams? I hope they get their act together.

I agree with you. It's getting to the point that I'm getting ready to sit down to watch Emmerdale (don't worry though - I wouldn't defect to Deadenders), and then just glancing back and forth at the screen for Corrie. I really don't know what's going on with it at the moment. As has been said already, the Platts have been severely overused over the past few years... and we have this David-Gail malarkey still to go through yet. Don't know if a change of producers will make anything better, but I'm hoping the quality will improve. (Let's hope Kim Crowther rids the show of some of the deadwood - ahem *Dev* ahem).

The problem is like EastEnders, how low does it have to go before something is done so it gets any better - the ratings certainly aren't free-falling at the moment.

Hopefully the new executive producer will give it a boost - but Corrie is still suffering from that exodus of the likes of Tony Wood, Brian Kirkwood and Daran Little over to Hollyoaks.

There's been many high profile coups in recent times of TV talent, but I think that has been one of the most successful for C4 and one of the most damaging for ITV.

When you've been in a show 47 years, I imagine there's no storyline that he hasn't already done. The fact that all his kids have gone doesn't help
