I miss corrie on sundays

Well- oddly I don't. Whilst I can see we're under the hour specials for Monday and Friday, these hours are now turning into.... well another hour of my life I'll never see again. Frankly an hour twice a week is too much- is the tide of too much soap turning with Corrie? Or is the dull storylines?

Just think, Emmerdale on Thursday had the cot death. Now I came home from work at 655pm, tired having been at work 3 hours later than I should have been and the storyline had me hooked for the whole hour- the acting, story, build up everything. At work the next day, all who had seen it commented just how good it was.

However, the other main comment was, a special storyline does deserve an hour once in a while. Not a case of ITV moving the Sunday night to 830 on a Friday.

And before we start- "he likes" Emmerdale more than Corrie- given I watched both in the mid 70's (yes I do remember the Farm days - thanks Nan for making me watch it Smile Very Happy )- this is my own comment on the current situation.

Ive been watching Emmerdale again since Christmas and I agree Thursdays hour long episode was very well done indeed. One of the saddest episodes of soap ive ever seen. And when Laurel ran to Shadrac and hugged him and said "I cant bare this, I miss him so much" that was so moving. The lady who plays Laurel so needs to win an award at the soapies.

Is it me, or would social services have got involved with this whole Alex/Ryyyyannn situation by now?

The storyline does step up another gear next week; I better spoiler this, as I know how much the storyline grips you...

Alex manages to lose Amy whilst supposedly looking after her at The Rovers. He is forgiven by Michelle and Steve though, much to Ryan's annoyance; so much so, that Ryan moves in with Liam.

In other news Jamie and Vi make their get away from the Street. Sean plans to get his name on the birth certificate... this proves too much for Vi, so she cancels the midwife sessions with Sean's boyf and puts her flat on the market.

This arouses the suspicions of Lauren and Marcus, who alert Sean. As Jamie and Vi pull away in the car, Sean tries to stop them; but sadly fails to be run over... erm.. I mean sadly fails to stop them leaving

Thursday's Emmerdale was one of the best soap episodes I've seen. I blubbed (fortunately only the dog saw that).
Well written and very well acted. Very believable.

EDIT: I knew the storyline was coming up, but I didn't know it was going to be on Thursday, and didn't realise it was an hour long episode until we suddenly had an "end of part two". By then I was gripped in the emotion of what was happening. I'm just a softie at heart! Laughing

Yes Emmerdale had certainly done research for Thursday's episode it seemed. Even brought out another side to Viv's character which hasn't been seen in a while.

Not watched Emmerdale regularly at all for well over a year but what I caught on Thursday was very well done.

Hollyoaks had some of it's finest episodes a couple of years ago when baby Grace died, but I think Emmerdale probably set it up better by basically not setting it up and having it as just another night, while in Hollyoaks it was the first time they'd left the baby to be baby sat, while every other member of Mandy's family had been killed off too.

Also worth noting how these hour long episodes work much better for Emmerdale than the double episodes do for Corrie - where the first episode would have just led up to the death as the cliffhanger. Here I believe the story began to unfold much earlier in the episode.

I almost blubbed too, some people think its daft to cry at something which is fiction but its a credit to the writing team if they make it feel real enough to make you feel sad.

Yes the 1 hour episodes are better than the doubles. Emmerdale has benefited from the schedule change and is better over 5 nights rather than 6, even if it is the same amount of episodes. The opposite is true of Corrie and it would benefit of going back to Sundays and axing 1 (or both) of these double episodes.

I really don't - I like the fact I have Sunday back! Having a fixed time for a TV programme on a Sunday was sort of ruling the day (in a very loose way - I ain't that sad!). I'd think, " must have dinner before Corrie" or "will call mum after Corrie", or " set the timer for Corrie". Now it really doesn't matter - I don't have to look at my watch at all!

I now realise how much I resented ITV for putting a soap on over the weekend - I'm free from any kind of timetable on a Sunday - just how a Sunday should be!

I just resent ITV for the wasted half-hours on a Monday and Friday instead.... I don't tend to watch anything else on TV at that time... I must start to record at 7.30 so I can condense it into my own hour slot instead! I'll go set the timer...

On a post above I'd made a comment about the cleaner that Sean hired for Violet's flat - Harry Hill picked up on this too in last night's show and showed the scene again Laughing

I do kind of miss it on Sundays though - there is nothing I watch on TV at all on a Sunday now, Dancing on Ice isnt my thing, and Sunday night is the one night im always at home so I end up catching up on stuff ive had to tape during the week. So yes I guess I would like Corrie back on Sundays if only to end the ridiculous Friday doubles. Also im out every Monday night so always have to tape the Corrie double and can watch it in about 45 mins by FF the ads.

You didn't have to watch it you know? Wink

I prefer it on Sundays too and think it impacts much less on the "weekend" schedule there than it does in it's new Friday slot, where ITV have now decided the weekends begin at 9pm, rather than an hour or two earlier which I'm sure most viewers would prefer. It also means both the BBC and C4 will now begin their "weekend" schedule later too at 9pm to avoid a thrashing by Corrie.

Sunday 7.30pm was a nice transition from weekend back to weekday - and fitted much better into the schedule than Dancing on Ice does.
