I think this would've worked better than expecting viewers to swallow a "swapped at birth" plot - I feel they are insulting my intelligence!

Interesting idea there but from what has been said in the script its unlikely Dean would have slept with someone else. They do seem to be making out he was some kind of saint, killed in a car crash by evil Paul who blamed him for the crash.

I wonder just how unrealistic a swapped at birth storyline is though?

Dean sleeping with someone else is FAR more likely than a hospital mixing up babies - and toppling him from his Sainthood would have been far more realistic and also devestating for Michelle.

Because I just don't believe the baby swap thing, I've been finding Corrie a real struggle to watch, lots of lost credibility.

If anyone can find an example of a swapped baby since 1990 in the UK I might be prepared to accept the whole damn storyline.

Fair point, although this would have happened in early 1992 as Ryan has just had his 16th birthday so its not long after 1990.

As for Dean, well the writing has been so good that they have made me feel sorry for a character we have never met, and indeed died 7 years ago (according to the scripts). The way Michelle speaks of him I think its unlikely (although not impossible) that he would have cheated on her, and its more original than the usual "finding out my hubby got another woman pregnant" storyline.

Anyway, the Vera tribute was good - nice to see her very first appearance in 1974 included, and it was very moving at the end with Bill Tarmey.

You say, "unlikely (although not impossible)" - I think it's far more likely and possible than swapped babies. It's an Acorn Antiques storyline me thinks!

I used 1990 as I couldn't be bothered to work out the ages! Half the time I think I'm in 1998 anyway... Confused

I agree, Vera's tribute was good - some great old clips Very Happy

I also enjoyed "Farewell Vera". Also found BIll Tarmey's bit at the end quite moving as well.

For those of you that don't know, Liz Dawn will also be the subject of tomorrow's "Tonight" at 8pm, where she'll talk to Trevor McDonald about leaving the Street, her battle with emphysema, etc.

So we'll next be seeing him in Holby city, Heartbeat or the Bill, oops sorry no the bill is for ex enders actors.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, by Nikki "Candice" Sanderson will be in the next series of Heartbeat as new nurse Dawn Bellamy (niece of Phil in case you're wondering)!

Jez made a valid point about workload that soap actors have. Roy Barraclough said he would never return to the Street because "80 hours-a-week is too much at my age!"

Old cliche I know, but they should try working a week in a hospital. Yes, during heavy storylines they might have 14-16 hour days, but frankly if the people in Corrie are finding it "work", maybe they're in the wrong vocation.

Really though when you think about it there has hardly been any break out stars from Corrie in the last 10 years or so. The only person I can think of as an unquestionable success is Sarah Lancashire.

Others, like Suranne Jones have had some moderate success, but have hardly made a name for themselves outside Corrie.

they just stick to the same typecast character like Tommy Harris was an arogant violent man and surprise surprise so was his character in where the heart beat

I know what you mean, it's hardly a shift down the pits or North Sea trawling is it ! Wink

Lucy-Jo Hudson is doing well on Wild at Heart you could argue. Apart from that, you have point... I blame the demise of Where The Heart Is Laughing

Richard Fleeshman is doing OK, but he hasn't exactly become the next Peter Noone though.

Was that the Museum of Science and Industry where Michelle went to meet Alex tonight?

It was certainly near by as you could see the flats on lower byrom street reflected in the window.

these flats were used as the exterior for the block Mike Baldwin lived in at one point

guess it cheaper to go local for a short location shoot, remember Brookside shooting a surposed 'location' shoot in their own canteen on the close

Re: Farewell Vera - highlighted the point that the likes of Bet Lynch and Curly were missing from the funeral.

Also, is Monica still around?

so were the Hortons and the Armstrongs plus respective grandsons Tommy and Brad

Jamie Armstrong probably didn't turn up due to the fact that having grown up he now bears a striking similarity to Eli Dingle Wink
