Nearly cried tonight. Seeing Jack upset made me upset. Shame ITV didn't have some clips of her at the end. Corrie has lost one of it's well known and most loved characters.

To RJH Glover: There is a tribute show on Sunday on ITV1 called 'Goodbye Vera' showing some of her classic moments.

I sobbed throughout tonights show (yes, I know, big poof), but I thought that it was handled really well.

The funeral was recorded at Prestwich St Mary's Church a while ago, and looks set to be a good episode.

Jack was brilliant - he even (nearly) shed a tear on tonight's Granada Tonight.

Ta-ra, Chuck. RIP Vee.

They couldn't have done the Vera and Jack scenes any better. Superb acting - Jack's reaction was bang on.

Shame it was spoiled by the other, pointless storylines.

I agree. I couldn't fault the scenes with Vera and Jack - his reactions were just...wow. I was in tears. What ruined it for me was the way they kept cutting to other stories. I mean why? Irrelevant scenes with a knicker party? What the hell was that all about?

But yes, like I said, the scenes with their reactions were very touching and yes, I did shed a few tears. End of an era really.

Nice ending with Jack and the credits were a lovely touch.

Gosh, why did they have to show Ryan's storyline I seriously couldn't give a toss about that. They should have focused more on Vera & Jack and have David and Tina's scenes as light hearted banter.

Corrie at it's best last night. A simple story with no major twists or turns and beautifully told and portrayed.

I think that is what's missing from Corrie (and all soaps) at the moment are the subtle human storylines like this. We want to see the pure reaction and genuine concern from othercast members rather than over the top huge storylines.

My only gripe with the both episodes was the very short time from Tyrone leaving Vera in the house to Jack returning and when he touched her hand it was cold. I don't think he was feeling her pulse as he was holding it in the wrong place. Would she have been that cold on that very short space of time? Remember Jack only had the one pint in The Rovers!

PS Does the pigeon and moon normally feature in the end credits?

Nope, they specially added that in for Jack Wink

I take it back what I said about the build up, in retrospect it wasn't necessary to build up or sign post her death earlier in the week. The ending was perfect and entirely suitable for the character.

makes a change for somebody to just die normally, whilst asleep in their arm chair, no big fanfair ending like they tend to do too much in soaps at them moment.

Jack's reaction was spot on with the shock at first, then the emotion coming in later.

One point has been forgoten, how good was Liz Dawn keeping still for all the scenes when Jack was alone with her.

That's more like it Corrie - some great stuff, especially in the second episode - but the bit where they all gathered at the front door didn't seem right - but hey, at least Ken Barlow didn't get in on the act.

Also note they did the classic soap thing of actually not showing the news being broken to most characters - just the before or after.

Hope they don't opt to send Jack away to grieve either - really annoys me how soaps so often skip over the grieving process by sending the bereaved on an extended holiday!

When's the funeral by the way?

The Carla / Liam / Maria storyline is pathetic though - bunny boiler or what!

Have you all forgotten something?

The way the soaps are scheduled, all the big three soaps can be watched without having to record one for schedule clashes. I'm not a big of soaps as I used to be, but my mother watches the big three soaps.

Of course knowing whats going to happen in last nights second episode, my mother changed over from BBC One to ITV1 just before the Eastenders end credits, but by then Vera had already died.

I don't think it was smart of the writers to put Vera's moment of death so bloody close to the start. Couldn't they wait at least five minutes?

The ratings for the actual moment of death shouldn't be too high because they're all watching the Eastenders end credits.
