Disappointing the changes won't be too extensive - after all it's supposed to reflect reality, and in reality some traditional pubs are getting very modern make overs, which often the locals don't like.
Anyway, confirmation now the Sunday episode is axed in favour of a double bill on Fridays - which probably means the Friday 7.30pm edition will now just be a filler episode too (like Mondays), and also probably means they'll be few editions set at the weekend.

Emmerdale and Corrie are being moved from Sunday to make weekends more "distinctive" and "something to look forward to". But instead of doing something logical like dropping the episodes altogether (which would see an improvement for both shows which currently are suffering quality-wise) they're being shunted back into the weeknight schedule meaning there'll be more soap during the weekday evenings than ever before.
I completely hate the idea of having two doubles a week. Hate it.

There already is a smoking area in the back yard, the white fencing which Jim hit Vernon into so he did was put up just after July 1st

A rather less hysterical article here from MediaGuardian.
It confirms the changes won't be that extensive, but will include the yard being made into an outdoor smoking area (wasn't there an episode a while back when everyone was smoking out there?), which begs the question, how are people supposed to get to it? Through the bar, around the corner, or will they make structural changes to allow a walkway through?
Also it's about time MediaGuardian got a new photo of the street. That one they always use has the old Rovers' signage and no stone-cladding on the Duckworths'.

they could only put a door through on the wall between the bar and doors to the cellar / toilets, where the dart board used to be pre 1986.
This is an outside wall and should be set in an alcove under the stars which go behind the bar, but of course we don't see the stairs coming through due to very bad set design.

I'm not sure there are many pubs these days the small size of the Rovers with a bar that big. It was obviously that far out originally to give 'the snug' a serving area, but since that went there really was no need for such a huge space taken up with bar area.
Most pubs have made bar areas smaller to fit in more seats.. I suppose Corrie call it tradition to keep the layout, however the 1986 fire proved major changes can be made and people just get used to it.

Having Emmerdale on 6 times a week is ridiculous. Corrie should go back to 4 times a week and Emmerdale 3 times a week with the odd special episodes. Relying on soaps can work for the whole line up when the soap is good, but when it is bad, the whole line up suffers. With all the soaps on, ITV are alienating some viewers.

Well we all know stairs can move overnight in Coronation Street.
A shame they're not doing more - I always felt they could make it bigger by knocking into the "back room" and then creating a new living space "upstairs" for those backroom scenes.

Nah id have hated that, I like having no Corrie on Tues/Thurs. Prefer it this way if they insist on having 5 episodes a week but in an ideal world would like it to go back down to 3 episodes a week which I know will never happen.

Hum. They should've just bitten the bullet and put Tues/Thurs at 8.30pm for Corrie, so we could have episodes set on different days.

The back room is still part of the living quarters though - even in Annie Walkers day barmaids Bet and Betty would always be in and out of the back room but used to knock first!

The backroom is the backroom though, not the living space. Would Betty and Violet be hanging about upstairs in the living quarters?
