Since Steve Frost left it went downhill so I stopped watching in Mid 2006 after watching non stop since the plane crash in 1993. Emmerdale's loss of Steve was definately Corrie's gain Wink

Steve Frost is atrocious in every known way and he has practically destroyed Coronation Street, causing casual viewers to leave and loyal viewers to reluctantly stick with it. He is lucky the loyal fanbase is so large because it has been the most underproduced, dreadful pile of boring-yet-sensationalist CRAP I have witnessed for many years.

EastEnders went through a similar period of being truly awful but has, this year under Dierdrick Santer, revived itself. Its recovery has been slow and viewers have been slow to put their time back into it - but last night it got 5 million more than Coronation Street on averages alone - 8.9m to 13.9 million. This really puts the quality of the shows into perspective.

The day Frost vacates office is the day modern Coronation Street can begin to work towards being a shadow of the quality it was in the early 2000s. He has inflated the cast, given veterans like Fred and Mike disrespectful and just-another-episode exits, masterminded some of the dullest plots in Street history, messed with characterisation, weakened the foundations of the show, ignored basic continuity and turned the show into one of the most unhealthy programmes on British television.

He is incompetent in the extreme, a blot on the show's existence and his work will take a lot of effort to rectify. Coronation Street may still be at the top of the ratings, but it is a shadow of its former self, and does a severe discredit to the 11 million people who remain faithful to it, five times a week, those people who tune in in the vain hope it will have improved.

Then perhaps the viewers are part of the problem? If he knows he can stick any old crap on and people will watch, why make any effort?

The show needs a producer who cares more about producing the minimum standard possible, someone who is concerned with the show's quality and not just about doing as little as he can get away with.

True, but he could also be getting the message that viewers are happy?

One look on internet forums would subvert this notion very quickly.

Rosie's ok as well

I wouldn't mind being in her clothes - kissing John!

Really?? John??

I liked Grace Dent's description of him - I think she said he was "a shorter, plumper, less charismatic version of Curly Watts."

Good God. What am I saying? I was thinking about RJC (Liam) when I was posting.. not John (urgh Embarassed ). I was in a hurry at the time...

The guy who plays John, can't act, he has no facial expression. Why would you let a school girl take control of you? I know it's a soap and all but come on - surely the guy has should have some control.

Re: The christmas episode was average, it could have been better with more light comedy. I thought Rosie deserved that slap and I bet millions watching were wanting to do what Kevin did to John!

I liked the way they did the closing credits too. However they had to ruin it by putting a trailor in just as the credits were finishing!

The worst Christmas episode for quite a few years, especially after last years brilliant effort.

That's the trouble when it concentrates on a storyline nobody really cared about - or three really. I'm fed up of the David Platt and Liz/Vernon storyline too.

The only scenes of any interest were Becky and Roy in the Cafe - though surely Ashley should have been more offended at the game "Murder in the Dark".

Why would he in a show riddled with continuity problems? I agree - terrible episode. Sums up Corrie this year for me.

But is this just another EastEnders vs Corrie biased rant??

In my own honest opinion (or rant Wink )....

The REAL reason EastEnders did so well in the ratings is because they've been boiling up a storyline for bloody ages that conveniently came to a head on Christmas day. Not to mention their target audience nowadays. Even if I had been watching the show as a loyal fan I would have agreed the same (alas, praising it aswell of course!)

I agree, Corrie was not at its best yesterday - there weren't enough pub scenes for one thing and they tried to cram too much in but personally I thought it was a good festive episode.

As for Steve Frost, he has inflated the cast and given Mike and Fred a poor send off but I'd hardly say he's "incompetent" and destroyed the show. Louise Berridge on the other hand...(yes, sorry to keep dragging her up but she destroyed EastEnders beyond repair for me).

At the end of the day ratings mean nothing, its the target audience who are watching the programmes - and especially Christmas Day.

How can Sarah just go to Italy at the drop of a hat without considering Bethany's education.

Before Christmas she was in year two at Primary school in Weatherfield and now suddenly she's in year one at the Scuola elementare in Millan. Confused

adults may be able to just uproot to another country over night but it's a bit different for a child in full time education

Perhaps they start school a year later in Italy? Our education system is often criticised for having compulsory education start so early.
