Emmerdale tends to be very set in its ways. I.e. its rich side/poor side divides, the eccentric oldies and nosey neighbours.

That's the basic set-up of every Soap. Rolling Eyes They're all the same just with different accents.

Thats as maybe, just Emmerdale seems sharpely defined in that set up more than any other soap IMO.

In other news, ironically Corrie clips have now been deleted from my YouTube channel by ITV. (Should have kept my mouth shut Confused )

I enjoyed watching those youtube clips Sad

anyway don't think steven arnold has done a particularly bad job with corry. not like the one who made it all dark and negative in 2001, how longdid he last.

Sorry about that but I wish YouTube were as willing to act against unauthorised uploads of TV Ark footage...

The problem is though Simon, we don't strictly own the material in the first place as much as we can argue over the point of spending hours sifting through material, capturing it, encoding it, paying for it to be hosted - we haven't really paid to use the material, or got specific written permission so from You Tubes point of view it wouldn't be worth bothering with, also bearing in mind You Tube leave infringing material up until they get a complaint from a company that is likely to sue.

On the plus side with some of the measures taken with new videoclips on the Ark at least it is a bit of free advertising for the website.

I take your point entirely and much as I'm fully aware of the copyright situation and the moralities of what we do, what bothers me is that it is us who have laboured away making the clips only for others to use them as they wish!

Anyone who were to ask me "can we use XXX clip" may be surprised by my response!

It doesn't particularly bother me those clips have been removed, they weren't that popular really. I mean, it would have been nice to get a warning email first I suppose. I have stacks of VHS tapes dating back to 1984 rotting away and I'm just trying to do something worthwhile with the footage before they're unwatchable.

How about episodes that are digitally recorded from 2006? (eg: Mike's death..)

I know Corrie does well, but ratings are not indicative of quality.

Genuine question: What is indicative of quality then? Any specific remarks on characters, plots, production values etc from individuals are always subjective-- all down to individual taste.

I believe ratings or audience-share for a soap are the only real objective ways of measure the quality of the soap. Think about it: Who and why are the soaps made for? A mass audience-- they are the flagship (serial) dramas for television channels.

With that in mind, I think it is fair to say ratings are indicative of quality. The viewers are the ones who appreciate the soaps after all!

Dont you mean Steve Frost? My hero Steve Wink Razz

Jane Macnaught was the producer in 2001. She wasnt the best producer Corrie has ever had but IMO she wasnt as bad as was painted, she had a good first year (2000), a not so good second year. (2001) as it was very depressing with Toyah's rape, Alma dying from cancer, the internet pervert and some of the other stuff wasnt too good like the never ending Geena and Dev storyline. However apparently ITV wanted 1 huge "blockbuster" storyline a month to compete with EE.

Tony Wood is the worst producer in recent times IMO - he like Jane MacNaught had a good first year (2004) but a crap second year. 2005 is my least favourite year of Corrie this decade. People forget that Steve Frost did an excellent job of turning Corrie around in late 2005/early 2006.

I thought 2005 was a very dull year for corrie.
