That aside, what a bizarre episode, full of comedy, some classic lines from Blanche, and Deirdrie on the mouth organ.

Like she was playing that Laughing

"Going to college? It'll be full of ho-mo-sexuals"

I would pay for an audio clip of that.

Whoever writes Blanche's script is a genius.

indeed, that was a party not be missed, what with Deirdre and Blanche 'You've married foreign before', 'people say we look like sisters', Karen's speech and Tommy shouting the odds at Cilla 'what you lot flamin' looking at', along with the new very camp character 'homosexuals should be prison not college' LOL!

Oh and Todd's off to college, so this is how they are writing him out then.

Funny how everyone complained that Todd, Karl and Karl's ex boyfriend were too 'obviously straight'. Now a gay actor's brought in to play a gay character and everyone's saying it's stereotyping. They can't win really.

Facing facts, some gay men are camp like that, some aren't... so they've got quite a good balance really.

Besides, I actually thought Sean was quite funny - especially when he was berating Norris!

EDIT: Oh look, we're discussing this on page 69! Fnar fnar!

I think Sean's campness is actually quite relevant to the plot. I'm sure Jason will be making some comments about having 'screaming queens' under his mother's roof. Also, the fact that Sean is so overtly gay opens up the acceptance/tolerance issue again - with many residents of the Street quite happy to chat away to him.

Absolutely. Blanche obviously thought he was lovely... although on bitchiness stakes, I'm not sure who's worst! Laughing

Oh, and I've just remembered the line which really cracked me up... when he very camply told Eileen that his mother had no idea that he was gay!

Also, did anyone notice who wrote last night's episode? I understand the Gimme Gimme Gimme writer does a lot of stuff for Corrie. Could it have been him?

I think it was Daran Little.

You can bet any single time that when Daran Little's name appears as the writer, a classic reference from early episodes/characters would be put in. And sure enough - Sean mentioned that "That sign out there says 'Inn'! Let me stay here!" - Ena Sharples, of course, said something along the lines of this and ended up forcing herself on Annie Walker in 1976. Hmm.

So there was a gay storyline back in the 70s? Laughing
