He did. And Fred Elliot should have dealt with him (in a professional capacity of course).

I would imagine Helen is 18 or over in real life, and has to be for legal reasons (ie. due to the storyline's subject matter).

There is a slight difference however, and it's largely due to changes in the sex laws of 2003. The age of consent remains 16, but as a teacher John is "in a position of trust" and if he were to sleep with a pupil - even one age 16 or 17, he would face criminal charges. Whether Rosie not being HIS pupil affects this I don't know.
Martin and Katy, on the other hand, were merely work colleagues and as such considered "equals" in law.

What HAS happened to John?
When he was first introduced a few months ago, he was depicted as a rather geeky (not that there's anything wrong with that I might add!) bespectacled, quiet introverted type. Now, all of a sudden, he has a trendier haircut, no glasses and seems to have changed his whole personality?!

It was quite obvious from Sunday's episode who was doing the chasing...and it wasn't John!

laws are contradicting aren't they. if the age of concent is 16 it should make no difference one of them is a teacher.
just glad I don't work with hormonally charged teenage girls like Rosie as it's always the male teacher who is made out to be the villan and it's not always the case

But as teachers are in a position of trust I agree with this law - same as for example a relationship between a doctor and patient wouldnt be appropriate.
Although Rosie is doing all the chasing I think John should know better - especially as he has a girlfriend himself.

It's to 'sex him up' as it were. I think somebody decided that if John was going to be this object of lust, then it wouldn't be convincing if he was a geek (for want of a better word!).
Then again Fred Elliot had three wives and several engagements, so what do I know?
