Younger? I thought she was looking unwell.

I may be wrong, but it appeared her eyebrows had stopped moving, so I guessed maybe Barbara had had some botox.

Or a stroke.

I was thinking the same kind of thing. She certainly looked rather different or, unwell, as you say Jez.

Well I noticed she had a different hairstyle. But yes I was quite shocked by how unwell she looked to be honest. She hadnt been in it for 5 weeks before that brief appearance on Friday, and she was sat down the entire time.

I know... I hope everything's alright for her.

Speaking of John, someone on DS posted this information which I think she said he made up, but I'll spoiler tag it anyway.

Kicking off the New Year is the beginning of a massive storyline that will run throughout 2008, with major consequences for many of the residents of Coronation Street. The storyline is a slow-burner filled with twists and turns of gargantuan proportions that build to a jaw dropping climax. Here's how it will play out:

Becky Granger will settle into life in Coronation Street but begin to notice strange things happening around her. Notes, text messages, flowers and all matter of strange, sinister deliveries. She's not sure who could be behind it, but as things escalate she realises she is being stalked. With Hayley away and Roy uninterested in having a relationship with Becky, she has to cope alone - and she thinks she can...

Meanwhile, John’s affair with Sally and Rosie results in him dumping Fiz and telling her that even though she's a lovely girl, she's not what he wants. Devastated, Fiz is comforted by Kirk, but he tells her he can't take her back so soon after she broke his heart. John, meanwhile, has bigger fish to fry, with both Sally and Rosie at his beck and call. He starts to see both of them at the same time behind Kevin's back and the viewers begin to see a different side to him. Manipulating Rosie into believing Kevin doesn’t love her, John begins to play mind games with his young lover.

In a special double episode in April, John goes from a 'date' with Rosie to a rendezvous with Sally, with neither any wiser, and Kevin the least wise of all. Both Sally and Rosie return at the same time and then lie to each other and then Kevin about their whereabouts. Becky is slightly drunk and stumbles out of the Rovers alone... taking a shortcut through the dark backstreet alley, she realises she is being followed and attempts to flee... but, as her stalker closes in, realises she is in far too deep. After a violent struggle, Becky gets away and runs for her life away - as the dramatic two-parter concludes with the villain staggering up from the floor and revealing himself to the viewer... as John...

This would be a huge turning point to the viewers and change the perspective of both the Becky storyline and the Webster storyline. The story would continue for several months, with Becky intensely scarred and, at the worst time, evicted by her landlord. Turning to Roy for support, her distracted boss sacks her from her job over a misunderstanding. Jobless and friendless, she begins to spiral into depression and during a flashback episode, we learn about Becky’s childhood. Abandoned by her teenage mother, Becky was shunted to various foster homes where she experienced abuse and first came into contact with drugs. Away from the street, Becky becomes a recluse – afraid of what her secret stalker will do to her.

She is discovered by Christian, Hayley's son, who tries to help but she pushes him away, scared of anyone who comes near her. He continues to try and help her as the stalking continues. As his affairs with both Rosie and Sally continue, John learns of Fiz and Kirk finally getting back together in July and, jealous, puts an end to it in another dramatic double episode. Tampering with the brakes of Kirk's new car, he leaves it in a death trap - and when Kirk is driving back from the jewelers where he has bought an engagement ring, tragedy strikes and a huge car smash leaves him dead.

As the residents reel and Fiz is devastated, life goes on. John is supportive to Fiz but the viewer knows all and it's literal "scream at the TV" stuff. Meanwhile, in the funeral episode, John attends but is cornered by Rosie, who tells him she is pregnant. Shocked, he demands she has an abortion, which she says she doesn't want to. Furious, he informs her it is not her decision to make, and practically drags her to a private clinic in the very next episode where she aborts the baby. Rosie is devastated but won't tell a concerned Kevin or Sally what is wrong. Meanwhile, Sally steps up her adultery further with John, none the wiser.

In September, after discovering a text message, David learns the truth about Rosie’s affair with John. Threatening to reveal all, David decides to use the information to his advantage, blackmailing John. But David meets his match, with a shocking turn of events results in David being badly beaten and left unconscious in a dark alley.

Becky continues to spiral into despair, homeless and alone. Christian, fearful, takes matters into is own hands. Feeling she has nothing left to live for, Becky takes an overdose and collapses in the very alley she was attacked... but just in time, Hayley Cropper returns to Weatherfield after being called by Christian a week earlier - and Becky is rushed to hospital. She survives and Hayley begs her to explain. Becky turns to Hayley and tells her everything and tells her not to get the police involved. As Becky breaks down, Hayley realises she has a long way to go in helping this broken soul. She moves in with the Croppers and tries to pretend she isn't still being stalked. Meanwhile, Fiz receives the same stalker treatment as Becky and is terrified. However, she is comforted by John's "protective" presence - much to the viewer's frustration.

It’s October, and Halloween. David decides to get a gun to wreak his revenge on John. But John discovers his plan after spotting him watching him from his house. In a violent struggle, John finds the gun and takes it with him. Meanwhile, Fiz invites John to move back in to the flat as they begin to rekindle their relationship. But when John goes to buy some wine, Fiz unpacks John’s belongings – and discovers the gun. In a dramatic confrontation, John convinces Fiz that it was planted – he takes the gun, promising to take it straight to the police.

Come November, John's behaviour is reaching a peak but he is starting to leave bad trails behind him. John is now bullying Rosie and tormenting her over the baby, blackmailing her and making her life hell while still seeing Sally, who is starting to notice there is something odd about him.

At the start of a climatic 5-episode week set over one night, Hayley hands Becky the post which she says was delivered to the other flat, triggering a flashback of Becky seeing John post a pink envelope the previous day. Becky realises she knows the truth...!

On the same fateful night, Fiz, already concerned about the gun, steals John’s phone and finds messages from Sally. Going into his laptop, she discovers emails from Rosie, and perhaps more disturbingly, pictures of Fiz with Kirk, and pictures of Kirk’s car. When she confronts him, he confesses all to her, including what he did to Kirk as well as what he is doing to Sally and Rosie. A horrified Fiz is knocked unconscious and tied up after a terrifying confrontation, and John rushes out of the house and straight to The Websters. Sneaking into the house from the back, he makes his way upstairs before Kevin walks in on him. At the same time, Sally and Rosie are making their way back home. With Sophie at a friends house, they look forward to a girls night in. But when they walk in, they find Kevin unconscious on the kitchen floor, and John standing right behind them. Revelations galore as the family learn of his terrifying actions. The magnitude of the situation leaves the family destroyed and Kevin ruined.

A frantic Becky makes her way to Fiz’s home – banging on the door she hears screams – knocking down the door she unties Fiz and they make their way to The Websters. She bangs on the door, and he hears Becky call the police from her phone outside and realises he has to move. With Fiz and Becky concerned but satisfied that the house is empty; they make their way to The Rovers to wait for the police. When he is sure they’re gone, he locks the Websters in their house and heads back to his flat. Time running out, he grabs his passport and a few things, before running out into the Street.

He runs down Coronation Street for his life as police sirens are heard - but he doesn't make it to the end of the Street before being shot dead. The police arrive at the desolate scene as the residents emerge after hearing the noise.

The viewers are left hanging - who killed John?

Would be rather exciting Smile

They've obviously "sexed him up" for this new storyline.

That spoiler seems quite detailed considering it's over a year away - how far into the future do soap writers usually plan?

It's either codswallop or someone has spoiled everything from a storyline conference - the former is much likelier.

The OP on DS says "To rescue the show from its stale state and better serve its loyal fans, here is a plan of action for 2008". No mention of whether it is their ideas or not.

I'll miss Cilla, I know she was a one dimensional comedy character but she did have a good way with words

Obviously 'Uncle Les' isn't coming back so it's yet another house on Corrie with an unusual family set up

Also:
"Don't die of excitement losers!"
"He left me £500. I spent more than that in rubber gloves"
"[Ashley is a] jumped-up sausage merchant"
"Grieve for Frank? He was nothing more than a meal ticket"

that spoiler is just a story conference, all those flashbacks remind me of brookside, I'm still waiting for the street to be demolished and Clare to drive a train into the rovers
