Can someone bring me up to speed on the Casey story? I thought she was wicked bad?

That's what we have been led to believe.

Basically Claire and Ashley spent some time away, and when they came back they held a birthday party for Freddie-- at which Casey turned up. Ashley tried to send her packing, but Claire decided to hear her out.

After a heart-to-heart Claire and Casey have buried the hatchet; obviously that intially confused Ashley, but Casey is friends with him too now. However she is getting rather too friendly....

Claire is currently spending time with her mother, she decided that she and Ashley needed space. So Casey has been coming round helping Ashley out, things culminated in a 'mistaken' kiss last night (
this turns more passionate next week!!
).

It's clear that Casey has some kind of ulterior motive, some have speculated she is trying to steal Clurr's identity somehow. I think it will be interesting to see how the plot pans out!

the trick with Vera is she can't just go without considering Jack, it's like when Ernie Bishop was being written out the only viable option was to kill him off because he wouldn't leave without Emily.

I think a rest home storyline is the only viable option in order to keep the character alive

(I guess Hilda is still alive)

so Jez, you were 6 when Hilda had her swansong, when I was 6 Mike Baldwin was having his debut Laughing

Hilda is still alive and well, last seen when Betty visited her in that video spin off in 1998!

I suppose they could keep Jack in it without Vera - they had Hilda for 3 years without Stan.

It also interestingly says that Bill had no idea that Liz had quit until he read it in the paper.

How could you possibly know that, I know that Jean Alexander is alive and well, but how do we know that a fictional character, that is never referenced at all on screen is "alive and well" ? She might be crippled up with arthritis or be on deaths door, we don't know as she is fictional.

Given that Jean Alexander will never return to Corrie (it became too modern for her), she'll probably never get mentioned again. Although I expect Sally & Kevin would have most reason to keep in touch.

EastEnders has beaten Coronation Street in the ratings now twice in a row: last Friday and now last night.

24th July:

Corrie 7.30: 8.9m
Corrie 8.30: 8.6m
EastEnders: 9.3m

Testamant to the fact the show is not in the best form or hands right now.

Or testament to the fact that Eastenders has seen the dramatic end to a long running major storyline. It's a marathon, not a sprint, and in that respect Corrie is streets ahead. You'll need to give it a while longer to see if that's a long term trend.

She was mentioned not so long ago in a scene with Sally and Kevin. When I say not so long ago in mean in the last few years. Kevin and Sally would have said if she had died.

Nothing has ever been mentioned to say she has died so its nice to think that Hilda is still alive. Besides she isnt that old, not like Ena and Minnie would be now! I think Hilda would be in her early 80s, I know Jean was 80 last year.

Shame she wont ever come back to Corrie, Hilda was a one off.

I think it was when they uncovered the "murial" on the wall when they decorated Very Happy

I'm sure the last time she was mentioned it was more recent than that! In fact, wasn't late last year or early this year? I'm sure Kevin mentioned her recently.

I've just been watching the 1970s box set. There's something I'm confused about; the first episode on the 1972 DVD is Ernie and Emily's wedding. After she had walked down the aisle it cuts straight to "Part Two", which confused me, I've seen various scenes of Emily saying "I will" in specials/documentaries etc. Is it a problem with my DVD, or does it cut straight to Part Two on anyone else's? Just wondering...

Hilda was mentioned when Sophie found Ivy's diary and was mentioning people from the past. She told Jack that Vera had stolen a french policeman's cap whilst on a street holiday (the hat was suddenly very conveniently to hand when this was mentioned).

Later Vera is in the pub trying to work out how Sophie would know about the hat because the only people who knew she'd stolen it were Ivy and Hilda.

one thing I don't get with soaps, why do people get referred to by their full names. for example Janice saying Fizz 'You know what Carla Connor thinks of Leanne' , rather than just saying 'Carla' .

You don't get people in normal conversation referring to people by their full name.
