Oh yeah Coro was amusing tonight, who would have thought Becky would be so concerned about her carbon footprint. I think Alison "Carla" King has hard-nosed down to an art-form. Why are Sean and Carla palsy-walsy all of a sudden Confused

Oh Sean will make friends with anyone - probabaly trying to suck up to her as she is his boss.

Agreed - great acting from Ali King tonight.

Since when did Carla refer to Sean as a mate?

Yeah that's what I meant. They've suddenly become bosom-buddies since that time Sean made cringeworthy attempts to justify his skiving on the day Carla came back. Now they're "mates" Shocked

Reportedly Alison King and Antony Cotton have become good friends in real life; all of Sean's friends are the same as Antony's friends off-screen. Co-incidence of course Laughing

How do you say that word, as i thought it was pedantic? "Your being pedantic?"

You are a pedant if you are regularly pedantic. You can be pedantic, just as you can be a pedant. Now I'll be pedantic: you wrote "Your being pedantic". You were shortening "You are" so you should've written "You're", not "Your". Smile

Onto the Coronation Street side of things, it's all very quiet and dull at the moment. From the interview with Steve Frost on the official site, things aren't looking that wonderful for the Autumn either. Oh well, here's to the Winter. Rolling Eyes

Quieter as it always is during the summer months but far from dull IMO.

Well in your opinion it's looking "quiet and dull" Pad. We'll have to just wait and see what happens.

What storylines would you like to see over the next few months-- geuine question. I think it's very easy to complain about things, but I feel complaints are much more valid if you can suggest improvements/alternatives. Just a thought.

As for pedant/pedantic, I have consulted the OED for closure:

Pedant=
Quote:
1. A schoolmaster, teacher, or tutor

2. A person who overrates book-learning or technical knowledge, or displays it unduly or unseasonably; one who has mere learning untempered by practical judgement and knowledge of affairs; one who lays excessive stress upon trifling details of knowledge or upon strict adherence to formal rules; sometimes, one who is possessed by a theory and insists on applying it in all cases without discrimination, a doctrinaire.

3. attrib. or as adj. That is, or has the character of, a pedant; of or pertaining to a pedant; pedantic.

Hence "pedantess, a female pedant; "pedanthood, the condition or character of a pedant.

pedantic=
Quote:
1 adj. Having the character of, or characteristic of, a pedant; characterized by or exhibiting pedantry; exaggeratedly, unseasonably, or absurdly learned. (In first quot., pedagogic, schoolmasterly.)

2. n. A pedantic person, a pedant. Obs.

A dull offering from David Lane tonight, finishing off a dull week and nearing the end of another dull month in Weatherfield. It's been dire and is showing no signs of improvement. Where to begin:

Leanne's restaurant: What an awful storyline. Had potential but is really awfully boring. The actor who played the most 'vocal' waiter was - well, I'm trying to think of a stronger word than abysmal...

Claire/Casey/Ashley: Oh god, what on earth is going on here? Claire's run off so Casey can hone in on Ashley - yeah right. Besides, I really couldn't care less about the lot of them.

Liz and Vernon: Nice to see Vernon doing something besides annoying dreamy talking, but it's really not filling me with any emotions at all. Utterly indifferent to this storyline.

Sean and Violet's pregnancy: Where to begin? All their talk of grandchildren and songs is so ridiculously far-fetched. It's no wonder Jenny Platt is leaving. For goodness sake, people of Violet's age rarely work in pubs all day, have few friends and sleep with gay men to get pregnant. It's so unrealistic and awful, and Anthony Cotton's not good enough, especially next to Jenny.

Tonight Joanne impressed me, shame she's leaving; her exchange with Carla was one of the few high points of the episode. They had the opportunity to get a good character going with Joanne. The actress is talented, but the character has been given nothing to do.

What has happened to Coronation Street?

Another dull month? May and June were hardly dull what with the fire and Paul's death. And July so far has been ok - its quiet as its summer and ive seen far worst summer stoylines - Scooter and the fish anyone? The idea is the best storylines are kept for autumn and winter not when people are out enjoying the summer - or at least they would be if it the weather wasnt so ****.

I liked the scenes at Leanne's restaurant tonight and we got to see Reet though so it cant have been that bad. Smile It will be interesting to see if Paul Clayton can save the restaurant from going down the pan when he becomes chef.

I liked the Ashley/Claire/Casey stuff too. This storyline is going along quite nicely so far as Casey worms her way into the Peacocks lives.

Liked the confrontation between Carla and Jo-Jo - I guess this is the last we see of her now, shame as id have preferred they got rid of Kelly instead. And Jo-Jo saying Liam thinks he is gods girl - um hello! Smile And she was hardly flighting him off when he came onto her was she Laughing

Sean and Violet stuff wasnt too bad but could have been better.

I have to say I agree with much of what you said, particluarly about the Ashley/Claire/Casey story.

I also agree that Joanne should've stayed - the one to get rid of in the factory is Kelly who acts like a weird Muppet on speed.

I really don't like Rita's friend either - she seems to get more lines than Rita.

Jesus wept Jez. Forgive me here for thinking you are DELUDED. Are you actually saying that the weather should dictate the quality of a soap that around 8 MILLION people watch 5 times every week? The quality should, and would under better management, be better maintained, it's really not rocket science to make the characters do believable things with their lives. Admittedly this summer is better than 2005/2006 but 2003 was a great summer with Shelly/Peter/Lucy amongst other things. They didn't give up because of a couple of people having barbecues then.

Paul's death - oh yeah, that was riveting TV. A practically silent car crash and brushed over in about 3 episodes. Rolling Eyes Besides, the crux of the action was only for one rather rubbish, cheap-looking episode. The fire - admittedly a great, well shot episode. But the next 30 episodes relating to it consisted of (badly) reshot scenes.

This is all just my opinion of course, just as your (valued) opinion is that Coronation Street is always wonderfully plotted, character driven, funny, dramatic, emotional and unmissable.
