Is Percy Sugden still technically alive in the series?

Percy is still alive as far as we know.

But then Ena, Minnie, Annie, Phyllis and Maud's deaths have never been mentioned either. I would assume Ena and Minnie are dead by now - they werent in the best of health by the mid 1970s on the show (and would both be over 100 now - Ena would be 108 I think!)

Ena died off-screen; her death was mentioned by Ken in the 1985 video "The Jubilee Years". And Elsie of course also died off-screen in the 1987 video which you were talking about, "The Life and Loves of Elsie Tanner" (I think that's the title).

Vi Carson did actually manage to return to the set after her last episode, but only for a special TV Times souvenir on Corrie's 2000th episode in July 1980 - she doesn't really look in the best of health in the photographs. Were they still expecting her to come back even in 1982? I ask this because in Daran Little's book, a section is on the Queen's visit to the newly-built outdoor set - the way its written makes it sound like Ena was still a part of the cast.

It said in one of the books that Vi wasnt well enough to record any scenes for Corrie's 2000th episode. Her final episode was 2nd April 1980, 3months before the2000th which as you said was in July (so would have been filmed around June I assume) I hadnt realised she was in photographs for the TV Times Corrie special.

I expect if she was well enough they could have written her back into the show in 1981 or 82 but sadly it wasnt to be.

I'll see if I can upload some pictures from that TV Times special shortly.

I can't seem them getting rid of Emily and Noris (one of the best characters IMO)! Jack and Vera possibly, if Liz Dawn's health deteriorates further-- you can't have Jack without Vera (or vice versa).

Steve Frost is a pillock. He's made Corrie into the UK's most successful soap, then he axes Les and Norris within seconds of each other? Doesn't he realise these two fantastic characters are what makes Corrie what it is, and that by axing popular characters he could watch his baby turn into another EastEnders?

Steve Frost is a pillock-- your opinion. Who says SF is axing Noris for definite?

As for saying Les "is a fantastic character", again that's your opinion. I think Les contributes nothing to the show these days, and that Bruce Jones is a poor actor; "if in doubt shout" type actor, who is really playing a parody of himself

Where has this rumour about axing Norris come from? He seems to be a popular character with the writers and viewers - can't see Frost (or any other producer for that matter) dropping him anytime soon.

Anyway, a poster on DS claims to have seen Corrie filming in Malta. Some have suggested it's for some upcoming episodes where Steve and Eileen go on holiday.

Great photos - thanks very much. Smile

That was the old outdoor set back in 1980 - I agree it does look tiny compaired to the current one. A friend and I were trying to work out where on the Granada set the old outdoor set was - it was apparently near to the old enterance to Granada Studios tours.

Was this the old set that was made into the "New York Street" on the tours?

I think so. I read somewhere the old set was the otherside of the huge bonded warehouse bullding to where the current set is now. Maybe the buildings where Davenport's motors is currently used to be the arches at the end of the old street set?

you're right on that one Jez because behind the viaduct on the old set you could see three roof apexes on a building within the museum of science and industry.

The archway for davenports is now the entrance to the police station, the police station interior is inside the factory and the factory interior is inside the studio Confused

I know its along way off yet, but what would you guys want to see for the 50th Anniversary. They could either do a trip down memory lane type thing like Neighbours did, or something huge. Home and Away did 4000 episodes will with a party, old members come back, montage of best bits and then car crash.

As for the current, the Mortons are ok ish, but would have been better to bring them in, in steps. Jerry needs to get a woman, and maybe the kids sociallisng more.

Strange - I had a massive row with a friend called Louis in the toilets of a gay bar on Millennium Eve too! Bloody awful night it was Laughing
