What is the reason for Vera's illness in the soap at the moment? Surely not still recovering after the fall on the stairs?
DA
I'm pretty sure that still is the reason - they keep mentioning Vera and about how she's recovering etc.
Yes, that's still the reason.
I'm in two minds about whether Jack and Vera should be killed off or not. I think the fact that they'd leave together means it would be easier, and preferable, to have a 'happy' ending. The lottery storyline would probably be the most obvious one and perhaps their final episode would be completely dedicated to them and it would end with a big party in the rovers before they drive off in a cab to live their final years out in the country. I think that would be quite a nice ending.
Of course I'm thinking ahead here and there has been nothing to suggest they're going anytime soon - but then I don't think it's going to be too long and I would really like to see them get a proper exit because they are brilliant characters.

They are brilliant, and it is such a shame that Liz Dawn's health has led to her appearances being sporadic, it seems reminiscent of Vi Carson's last five years as Ena. I don't think moving Jack and Vera to the countryside - or even Spain for that matter - would work; I mean, as we (i.e. the viewers) have "grown up" (if you get my drift) with them and "got to know them", can we really see the pair living peacefully together in a leafy cottage or lapping up the sun on a beach? It's just not Jack and Vera... it looks like there's no appropriate ending, but that's my opinion. Hopefully their departures won't be decided on just yet anyway.

when is their 50th wedding anniversary meant to be?
I don't get why some people want to axe the child characters, ok they don't do much now but think how much Tracey did as a kid, she disappeared for two years and she's regenerated four times but the character as an adult has given us some good story lines.
I can think of three future storylines with present child characters.
in 15 years time Tracy comes out of prison and we could see Amy's reactions to that as a 17 year old who's had no mum since she was two.
We still have a story with Joshua finding out that Ashley and Clare aren't his real parents, he knows about Matt being his other dad' but how much does he know about Maxine, as he gets older he will understand more and maybe find out about his conception which would break his relationship with Matt.
Finally we have Beth and the fact she is 13 years younger than her mother, how she reacts to that as she gets older is another precurser to a good storyline.
so lets not axe the kids just yet

They are brilliant,.
I disagree. Jack and Vera are one of the two worst characters in the programme. Jack's constant moaning of Vera is tired and dated. Whenever Jack and Vera are in an episode, you know it's going to be bad. They should be axed.

Winning the Lottery would be terrible - just like when they took over the Rovers.
As others have said, if they left together it's unlikely one of them dying would be appropriate - so perhaps moving them into a nursing home or something. That way they could perhaps still crop up from time to time - and their deaths be dealt with at a later date.

That's only your opinion. Half the country (at least) think otherwise.

Why isn't it appropriate? It does happen. A lot of Brits are retiring or are otherwise emmigrating to Spain.
OK realistically one of them could die, but that's a very Eastenders way of thinking, death/gloom for the sake of it-- no good reason to kill either of them off IMO
I think Jack & Vera are one of the best comic pairings in Coro, and they have endured enough misfortune over the years-- they deserve to have a happy ending and reversal of fortunes.
Also I think the Duckies are held with affection in British public, I doubt they would have been chosen to promote the whole ITV channel back in the day: You piecan

While I understand how you all want a happy ending for Jack and Vera, I'm not so sure.
The more realistic it is, the more effective it will be - and winning the lottery and moving to Spain isn't an ending that's appropriate.
