Hmmm ... I couldn't help noticing that Weatherfield Coach Station looked somewhat suspiciously like Bury Interchange,
about 8 miles north of the studios. Strange that they choose to record the closing scenes between Leanne and Janice
there with a 135 bus in the background, when Manchester Central Coach Station (formerely Chorlton Street Station)
and Shudehill Bus Station, are both within easy distance of the studios, with Chorlton Street being the closest.

Yes it was Bury interchange and it was filmed about six weeks ago. I couldnt see who they were filming because of all the old people standing around. After seeing it last night i thought it was strange that they didnt use Shudehill.

I cant see them ever axing Jack and Vera. All the characters who have been in the show regularly since before the 1990s - Ken, Emily, Betty, Reet, Deirdre,Gail, Jack, Vera, Jack, Audrey, Sally and Kevin I cant see them ever axing to be honest. Liz and Steve have been around since 1989 but I consider them 1990s characters as it was only December 1989 they joined. Blanche also was out of it years and only returned regularly in 1999.

Both Liz Dawn and William Tarmey suffer from ill health but they both want to carry on as long as possible in Corrie.

They are bringing in a grandson, Paul Clayton, for The Duckworths - Molly contacts him as they are struggling to look after Vera. He is the son of Terry Duckworth and Andrea Clayton's, born in 1986 (off screen after the Clayton Family left in 1985) He arrives on 13th July and will apparently be a womaniser like Terry but he adores his grandparents (so much so it seems he hasnt seen them since 2000/2001! Wink )

Im glad they are bringing in another Terry Duckworth type character actually - before they made him really bad in the 1990s he wasnt such a bad lad really. He was willing to do the right thing by Andrea Clayton but her family didnt want to know. I also liked the friendship he had with Hilda, who was a pensioner.

I like Joanne actually and wouldnt call her dead wood at all. She is leaving later in the year anyway I heard. As I said before, I would prefer Kelly to leave as she is definately getting more and more annoying.

Good episodes tonight - plenty of laugh out loud moments with Blanche. I think this is one story that can be classed as a "good filler" storyline.

Yeah, I do think that worked very well. It was great to see Blanche changing her ways and offered up some wonderful comic moments.

Interesting that Joanne has come back -I heard she'd been axed and I assumed this immigration nonsense would be the end of her. Have they backtracked or is she still going? If she's still going then this immigration storyline was rather pointless.

As far as I know Joanne is going later this year. I hope they have backtracked however as she is a great character IMO.

It didn't even look like a coach station though which was the oddest thing about it. I just looked like a normal bus station - certainly not somewhere where coaches for London would be leaving from.

Yes it did look like a bus station rather than a coach station. Dont forget though that Corrie is set in Weatherfield rather than Central Manchester, so I assume in a town like Weatherfield National Express coaches would depart from the town's bus station (like they do in the town where I live).

Also surely the quickest way to get from Manchester to London on public transport is via train - it only takes about 2 1/2 hours to London Euston. Maybe they could have filmed at Manchester Piccadilly train station instead Wink

Not as bad as what they once did on Emmerdale. They filmed Sam Dingle getting on a vintage train on a preserved railway, apparantly he was travelling long distance
Maybe the Heartbeat location manager organised that shoot!

Not that I think any of us want them to go, wouldn't you rather they got a properly constructed on-screen exit/death rather than them having to be written out due to the actors' ill-health or death.

Yes, that's what I meant by them hopefully getting the exit they deserved. I don't think they should be 'axed' but perhaps if their health showed no signs of improvement then an agreement could be reached in which the writers would be able to develop a wonderful exit storyline that they'd deserve and one that would be a fitting tribute to the pair of them.

Yes obviously id prefer an on screen exit for them but I wouldnt like to see them killed off. Obviously the actors arent ready to leave just yet. It will be a shame if they are taken ill suddenly and unable to record any final scenes.

That has happened in the past with so many great characters being written out without a proper exit. Minnie Caldwell (Margot Bryant) was written out in 1976, 6 months after her last appearance an old friend, which the script said she had been visiting to explain her absence, came to tell Ena that she had decided not to return to Coronation Street.

Ena herself went to visit a friend in St Anne's on Sea near Blackpool in 1980 and never returned. Her final scene with Albert and Ken hinted that she *might* not be back but they were obviously keeping it open incase Vi was well enough to return at a later date, which sadly she never did.

Arthur Leslie (Jack Walker) died suddenly in 1970 and his death had to be written into the script. Same with Jack Howarth (Albert Tatlock) in 1984.

Doris Speed (Annie Walker) was taken ill in 1983 after a newspaper revealed her age wasnt 73 as she claimed but 84 - she never returned. The script said she was visiting her daughter. Both Doris and Margot lived for over 10 years after they left the Street - Doris was 95 when she died in 1994 I think.

Pat Phoenix (Elsie Tanner) was the only one of the main original cast to get a proper exit and she left twice - in 1973 moved to Newcastle to live with Alan Howard to try and patch up their marriage, which didnt work as she was back in 1976. And then left in the back of a taxi in 1984 to live with old flame Bill Gregory in Portugal. Infact in those days they didnt need big exits like they do these days.

Phyllis Pearce and Maud Grimes also didnt have proper exits - the actresses died in real life so it was mentioned they had moved into that residential home and they were probabaly still supposed to be there (or dead, Maureen never mentioned her mother when she returned at Christmas)

I would like to see something like Jack and Vera being written out by possibly moving from the street. Such as they buy a new house in Blackpool and move there...then we don't need to be all Awh they're dead.

There were rumours a few years ago that they would win the lottery and leave the street!

Its supposed to be their golden wedding anniversary this year so I hope they do something special on the show for them. 10 years ago for their 40th anniversary they did the video Viva Las Vegas.

I liked the one with Reet and Mave on a cruise. I remember the big fuss afterwards because the video said it wouldnt be shown on TV and it was. However the version they showed on ITV was cut to shreds

The one with Bet Lynch was poor though, I hate Bet.

I can't seem them getting rid of Emily and Noris (one of the best characters IMO)! Jack and Vera possibly, if Liz Dawn's health deteriorates further-- you can't have Jack without Vera (or vice versa).

I reckon we'll see Liz Dawn as Vera in a wheelchair before long and Jack having to push her around everywhere. Its a shame her health is deteriorating, I agree, they should be written out and leave with a fade out similar to Curly's exit.

Jack & Vera deserve some happiness, I like the idea of them winning the lottery and 'retiring' in Spain.

I was surprised to see people saying get rid of Molly & Tyrone, since they are clearly being groomed to be the next Jack & Vera. I feel Molly and Tyrone too are criminally underused like Violet. M & T work well as a couple, and there was a suggestion they might have kids together, which could be interesting.

Again I'm surprised to see people clamouring to see Chesney booted off. I think he works well with Sophie, and they could have a nice teenage relationship in later years. Would be nice to see Chesney not becoming a teenage tearaway for a change too.

It would be great to get rid of dead wood like Vernon; but you can't go too OTT with the axings, since you need people to live in the houses and run the businesses (not to mention actors' workloads darling).

We could get rid of all the Mortons, but that would leave us with an empty house, same if we got rid of the Peacocks also Confused Rather than having a constant merry-go round of people, might be better to give them storylines for a change.

Sean I don't mind, I think he's quite funny; but even I'm starting to think he's over-exposed. I think he should either work in the factory or the pub, I don't think he's needed in both-- I'm sure Eileen doesn't charge an exorbitant amount in rent Laughing

Overall I don't think Steve Frost has done a bad job. He has managed stable ratings, we haven't seen a massive drop in ratings as with Deadenders . He has brought some decent new characters in, like the Connors.

However he needs to stop his obsession with sensationlist storylines I feel. One or two a year is OK, gives us something to build-up to; but having one every other month means they lose their effect after a while.

I would like to see more of a return to "kitchen-sink" storylines, without dropping high drama completely though. Whilst I'm unsure about the content of the Sean/Violet storyline, this is the genre of storyline I mean, more character-driven than stunt-driven.

As for Frost's introduction of the Mortons... 'nuff sed' Laughing
