Get rid of the deadwood by all means, but you have to be careful that you don't create more deadwood to fill their place as often the removal of one or two characters can leave another character as little more than an extra in the show.

Alot of people are going regardless in the next year or so - so it's what you do with the people left behind.

Talking of dead wood, some of it's just come back - Joanne. As her exit was very sudden (a few episodes) I assume the actress had personal problems that she needed to be off work for.

Blanche's personality transplant was short lived but amusing.

I like Joanne actually and wouldnt call her dead wood at all. She is leaving later in the year anyway I heard. As I said before, I would prefer Kelly to leave as she is definately getting more and more annoying.

Good episodes tonight - plenty of laugh out loud moments with Blanche. I think this is one story that can be classed as a "good filler" storyline.

I can't seem them getting rid of Emily and Noris (one of the best characters IMO)! Jack and Vera possibly, if Liz Dawn's health deteriorates further-- you can't have Jack without Vera (or vice versa).

I reckon we'll see Liz Dawn as Vera in a wheelchair before long and Jack having to push her around everywhere. Its a shame her health is deteriorating, I agree, they should be written out and leave with a fade out similar to Curly's exit.

Yeah, I do think that worked very well. It was great to see Blanche changing her ways and offered up some wonderful comic moments.

Interesting that Joanne has come back -I heard she'd been axed and I assumed this immigration nonsense would be the end of her. Have they backtracked or is she still going? If she's still going then this immigration storyline was rather pointless.

I can't see them remaining in the show for much longer. Liz's appearances are sadly few and far between and whilst we see more of Bill it's still not that often. It's always a pleasure to see them on screen and hopefully when they do eventually leave they get the exit they deserve.

Hmmm ... I couldn't help noticing that Weatherfield Coach Station looked somewhat suspiciously like Bury Interchange,
about 8 miles north of the studios. Strange that they choose to record the closing scenes between Leanne and Janice
there with a 135 bus in the background, when Manchester Central Coach Station (formerely Chorlton Street Station)
and Shudehill Bus Station, are both within easy distance of the studios, with Chorlton Street being the closest.

They may have had to have got permission to film at Manchester Central Coach Station - or they could have applied for the permission but it could have taken too long to get intime for the filming schedule, so maybe that's why they chose the other location.....! Laughing

It didn't even look like a coach station though which was the oddest thing about it. I just looked like a normal bus station - certainly not somewhere where coaches for London would be leaving from.

Indeed I noticed that too. They could have at least got some National Express coaches in the background rather than First buses. I did wonder where it was as it definally wasn't Manchester Coach Station
