Tonight's episode actually made me feel a little sorry for Blanche for the first time in ages (possibly ever!) - it's nice to get her getting some non-comedy storyline.

Me too - they are such great chracters I never find their storylines boring.
Havent watched it yet - but I wouldnt have thought there would be a problem mentioning it. Afterall they had a storyline back in the 80s where Vera almost went to prison and ended up getting a huge fine as she and Jack had no tv license.

Poor Blanche in Corrie tonight, stuck in the crossfire between Ken & Deirdrie.
I always enjoy the Ken / Deirdrie relationship problems, we've had plenty of them down the years. They are such strong characters it always makes for good viewing.

was it me or was there a subtle plug for TV licence payments in there

Blanche still gets some great lines though...

A few weeks ago there was a sequence, completely irrelevant to anything else, where Sean had to disappear into the back to help sort out Liz's digital box. I couldn't help wondering if it was some kind of plug for digital switchover.

How true! The Post Office sign in the lobby of the Kabin needs updating too, because it still lists TV Licence as one of the services on offer!

You cant actually get your tv licence at the Post Office any more.

Thelma Barlow was on
This Morning
, well... this morning!
Phil and Fern showed her very first appearance in 1971, speaking with Ena Sharples. They also showed Mavis dragging Madge Hindle from a river, a classic Mave and Reet exchange, Des Barnes demolishing the Wiltons' garden with a speedboat and Mavis's farewell (which made Thelma well up!).
She is due to appear as Lady Thaw this Saturday on Doctor Who , hence her appearance on TM.
