Betty has her once a year storyline this week when she has a funny turn during the pensioners protest about Alf's fountain. Rolling Eyes

Was there much point in the Norman Wisdom cameo ?

Well, I thought it was very good. He's 90 now, and it's nice to hear his old laugh from his 1950's films.

I thought the Norman Wisdom cameo was very poor.

Ive noticed Betty and some of the other pensioners like Emily and Rita have been in it a lot more recently, maybe the new producer (Tony Wood) likes having the oldies in the show more than the previous producer did?

Tonights episode was good, I liked Maria's line about her being the local bike - LOL Poor Maria. She will be well rid of the plank when he leaves anyway! Very Happy

Sir Norman always wanted to be in Corrie, it probably was good anyway.

I also like the idea of the oldies being in it more, and just think about how many past characters have been mentioned in the past few months:
Ena Sharples
Vera Lomax
Alf Roberts
... and Audrey commented on Emily's Ernest!

I've been thinking, and I think Jean Alexander should make a small return. It would be good, seeing Hilda, she'd be shocked at what's going on! Besides, she's the only one out of the four great women (Violet Carson, Pat Phoenix and Doris Speed) left.

He means that Jean Alexander is the only one who is alive out of the 4, with Violet Carson, Doris Speed and Pat Phoenix all having passed on some time ago.

But I'd like to see Hilda make a comeback, that would be interesting.

And we also got a mention of Mavis in tonights episode.

It would be nice to see Hilda come back, apart from the video special "The Women of Coronation Street" she hasnt been seen since 1987. However I think Jean has said she wont come back because the show has changed so much. It would be nice for Mavis to come back too - her and Rita were the best double act IMO.

But Norris is now just Mavis in a different guise!

Didn't Hilda also make a brief return in a one off Corrie special, during one of the ITV Telethons?

Thank god this plank of wood is finally leaving the show!

Lets hope if Nick ever comes back they find an actor who can actually act!

Norris and Rita make a great double act but Mavis and Rita were better. I liked the way Rita used to wind Mavis up and then Mavis would retaliate and start lecturing Rita Laughing
