That's a shame, she has developed quite well as an actress in that role, with some very strong storylines which must have been demanding on someone of her age.
She could never have developed into the new "bitch" as that role is being engineered for Leanne and Carla (and very well indeed) at present. The other female stereotypes are already taken:
comedy - Vera
family values - Eileen
successful-but-vulnerable - Liz
Aged Soothe-sayer - Rita
Tormented-Soul - Deirdre
Good luck to Tina O'Brien though!
EDIT: Correction for spelling of Deirdre!
(got it from replaying the credits!)

I always like the way that Rosie Webster "changed" from having naturally blond hair for years to suddenly becoming a teenager with naturally dark brown hair
Not that we notice, in the same we don't notice the Peacock's staircase moving over night!

Quite! It wouldn't be so bad if some "explanatory" dialogue was inserted; ie. on being faced with a flame-haired Hayley, Irene exclaims "Gawd love, what've you done to your hair?" To which Hayley answers, "Now how did I know you were gonna say that?! The hospital's got a mobile stylist, and I wanted cheering up (face drops) for all the good it's done, I'm still stuck here..."

Like Tina O'Brien's quote from the BBC website: "But I feel that the time has come to see what else is out there for me as an actress".

I love that line too - Blanche comes out with absolutely hilarious lines; even more so in the past couple of years.

Classic!

My favourite Blanchism is "He's a looney and she's a man" - about Roy and Hayley also skitted on Harry Hill's TV Burp that week.

Of course! I remember laughing out loud at that one. Another "Blanchism" is when Liz was at the Barlow's, dressed in what looked like a rather tight-fitting outfit for a job interview - loved Blanche's line, "Is is a job as a prostitute?"

Emmerdale changed Victoria from a chubby ginger haired girl to a slimmer dark haired girl and nobody noticed.
actually most gingers probably wish their hair would change colour the amount of stick we get for it.
I'm surprised they didn't replace Fred with a thin actor with hair
