He arrived back last week, he was greeted by Violet who broke into tears. Not because Sean had come back (!), but because she had been left holding Jason's baby for the enth time and she probably can't have one of her own now.
Sean had only been on holiday for a week or so I think.
I suspect Andrew was being sarcastically euphemistic with the character and plot devlopment comment on the previous page

did Jamie really need a month off just to grow a beard? Also when did Sean go on holiday?

Shame Sean couldnt go away for a permanent holiday.
I expect he will be off our screens soon as we will be seeing the episodes recorded during the time he was in soapstar superstar.

Whats wrong with that? We have yet to see Betty this year so far. Should they write a storyline to explain her absence too?
The circumstances are completely different. You don't have to defend the show at every opportunity. I'd expect something like that from EastEnders, where people die and nobody notices, but not Coronation Street.

Im defending them because I dont see what they have done wrong here? Its not as if a character has died, he just hasnt appeared on screen for a while due to the actor being "unavailable". I dont see why they HAVE to draw attention to his absense.
They do sometimes e.g. Jane Danson going on maturnity leave, but when Sally Whittaker went on maturnity leave in 2003/4 they didnt. She just appeared in the Rovers after a few months away as if nothing had happened.

I have to say I'm with Jez on this.
It makes no sense to tenuously add an explanation for his absence when it would simply draw attention to the fact that he's been gone for months.
It's an embarrassing enough situation for Mr Charles. It seems entirely gracious of the producers to allow him to slip back into the show the easy way.
I'm not sure who that person is on DS, or why he feels the need to rant about this. He doesn't seem very smart to me.
